Winter – “Zoey”

If you’ve ever wondered what it would sound like if David Lynch produced a pop song, look no further than “Zoey,” the latest starry-eyed single from LA dream pop four-piece, Winter. Mr. Husband – “DREAMDRIVER”

“DREAMDRIVER” by Mr. Husband, the project led by Maryland songwriter Kenny Tompkins, is a crisp, melodic and affecting tune marked with subtle bits of wistfulness. The track was recorded during a 5-hour live-in-studio session on the day of Tom Petty’s passing, and just like the late, great Petty himself, Mr. Husband is able to craft a riveting 3-minute tune rife with pop sensibilities and genuine emotion. “DREAMDRIVER” is the first single released from Mr. Husband’s impending album SILVERTONE. Native Language – “Lights Across the Water”

“Lights Across the Water” adopts a sound similar to the kind that propped up the catalog of Australian indie forebearers The Go-Betweens decades ago: an elegant, sophisticated melody carries through with clear-cut precision and power. Native Language, the Chicago-based trio behind this here gem, are on the rise and in control of their sound, knowing full well how to craft a resonating anthem with high replay value. Check out “Lights Across the Water” below: Lights Across The Water by Native Language

Frøkedal – “I Don’t Care”

“I Don’t Care,” a new song from Norwegian folk-rock singer-songwriter Anne Lise Frøkedal, is surely as splendid and catchy a little ditty as you’ll come across today, as it expounds a pervading sense of innocence and excitement. It shows shades of She & Him in its playful tone but rocks just a little bit harder. Despite its upbeat jangle, a burst of attitude, set to the theme of moving beyond troubles of the past, can’t help but push through. Frøkedal’s upcoming sophomore album, entitled How We Made It, is slated for an August 31 release.

Pizzagirl – “Seabirds”

Pizzagirl’s new track “Seabirds” is a serene gift from the multi-talented Liverpool lad who goes by the aforementioned pseudonym. It’s an endlessly fun and listenable but emotional guided journey through a 1980s-influenced soundscape. However, like every intuitive descendent of that culture, Pizzagirl manages to capture something fresh, as the song’s echoing vocals and fresh, shimmying production sound brilliantly transcendent. Pizzagirl’s debut EP An Extended Play was released on Friday via the independent label Heist or Hit.

The Gloomies – “Tiger”

“Tiger” by Californian duo The Gloomies starts with a distant but steadily approaching guitar-led melody, which flowers into a thumping beat accompanied by (fittingly) gloomy, reflective lyrics tackling the end of laughter, the breakdown of seemingly everything in one’s life and the feeling of losing stride. The chorus gives off a touch of life amidst such despair, as a funky and resolute rhythm kicks in and presides over the next verse. The song rises even higher from there, with a majestic crash of instruments to closing out the tune with a bang. The band’s debut album is due to be released this summer.

I Know The Chief – “Saudade”

Melbourne, Australia’s I Know the Chief boogies down with the new recording of their live favorite, “Saudade,” like a chrome-dipped John Travolta in “Saturday Night Fever.” This pastel and palm trees disco track features fuzzy vocals, handclap drum machines and phantasmic synths out the wazoo. Give this ecstatic listen a play below and grab a towel because you’re going to break a sweat dancing to this one. I Know The Chief have a big 2018 in store, be sure to follow the latest via their Facebook page here and check out more tracks on their SoundCloud here.

Francis – “All I Want”

Swedish indie veterans, Francis, resurface and drop off their enchantingly atmospheric new single, “All I Want.” Their latest pop track features singer Petra Mases’ gentle and compelling vocals leading the sounds of rhythmic riffs, lucid keys and punchy percussions like a fresh stream running through a lush, tranquil forest. This combination ebbs and flows, starting somberly and building to an invigorating and sunny harmony that’s emotionally arresting from start to finish. Give it a listen, or several, below. For more Francis tracks and videos, check out their official site here or follow them on Spotify here.

Morning Wars – “Runaway”

Syracuse four-piece, Morning Wars, is back with the new single, “Runaway,” a raucous alt-rock track that will leave you chasing streetcars and adventure. After forming in 2016 in the dorms of Syracuse University, Morning Wars developed their distinct sound by peppering alternative melodies with surfer and psych rock sensibilities. The results, as heard in their latest release, play to the curiosity of open horizons, especially with founder and vocalist Marc Ramos’ grandiose voice egging you on. So grab your hobo bindle and a can of beans and give it a listen below. Drift on over to Morning Wars’ SoundCloud here for more tracks.

Foresteater – “Pretend Land”

Phoenix, AZ’s singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Mikey Pro, brings us “Pretend Land,” a sugary and delightful new single from his candygrunge act, Foresteater. The track features bubblegummy, yet despondent vocals floating over a tie dyed smorgasbord of pop-rock melodies that crest with an irreverent sing-a-long chorus making for a catchy, ironic listen. Indulge your sweet tooth and schedule a trip to the dentist with this cavity-causing tune below. Skip over to Foresteater’s website here or SoundCloud here for more tracks and videos.

Jet Rewind – “Stereo”

Stockholm’s Jet Rewind dish out indie rock reminiscent of a simpler time in “Stereo.” With a moniker derived from a VCR function, this band is clearly in touch with the glory of the past, adding a rose colored tint to that old school roll of film. This track centers on the idea of letting loose and giving in to the feeling, outlined by clarion guitar tremolos, binding bass lines, and steam powered drum fills. It’s a freeing concept that can’t help but shine through in the song’s orchestration via ascending vocal melody lines and luminous instrumentals. Get a feel for the track below, Jet Rewind’s second single released via Admirable Traits Records.

Rally Club – “Space”

The story of San Diego band Rally Club is about as wholesome as they come, formed organically out of a college camaraderie of being that guy with a guitar at a party. Several years and a couple more bandmates later, Rally Club have moved from their cheap beer-fueled cover band days to a full-fledged indie rock touring outfit. Their resulting sound is somewhere in the realm of lo-fi, garage, and surf rock. This is all showcased in their single “Space,” harnessing tin can vocal harmonies, jangly guitar lines, and peppy drum set work. The track comes from a series of demos that were spruced up and stitched together by bandmate Christopher John, unveiling the true essence of Rally Club to the world amidst the project’s revamp. Touching on topics of youthful indiscretions and muddling through your twenties, this is the type of feel-good track that appeals to your nostalgic side[...]

Someone – “Chain Reaction”

Pop songstress Tessa Rose Jackson wrangles anonymity and a fresh start in her newest project, Someone. After years of working in TV and film composition, Jackson trades in her quirky singer-songwriter pop sensibilities for transcendent production and an innovative dose of synthesizer. Her latest single, “Chain Reaction,” showcases the evolution of TRJ into Someone, combining the best of her acclaimed tracks from shows like New Girl that we all know and love, with her expertly-layered production and the kind of refinement that can only come with age. This track in particular is a testament to her evolution, dipping into streams of psychedelia and artpop influence. Get a taste of the track below, and follow up with the rest of Someone’s recently released EP Chain Reaction.

kvlt daddy releases new album Bones Buried

Bones Buried, the new album from kvlt daddy, is a gripping listen—something for which you must buckle in and brace yourself. The introductory track, “Salt,” is laden with hardcore, heavy metal-influenced riffage, a constant throughout the album. It’s a characteristic, however, that doesn’t run dry in the slightest, and that’s not owing to Bones Buried being a quick listen. The same would surely be said had this been a 60-minute-long endeavor. The greatness of this Syracuse trio’s sound lies directly in the overflowing energy that presides over it. The distortion-filled, lightning-fast instrumentals are met with vocals categorizable more so as the kind you might find in a garage rock or alternative band—they certainly don’t rely on screaming as much as other heavy-sounding bands, that is. Given this, the group should be filed, or rather put on top-shelf display, somewhere between Tool and Queens of the Stone Age (a high compliment).[...]

Polychrome – “Final Kiss”

East-London’s Polychrome dive headfirst into the synth-dominated cinematic pop scene with their debut single, “Final Kiss.” Blending the picturesque production stylings of M83 with the tender vocal delivery of Rostam, the newly formed partnership stretches its legs, providing a fresh take on an increasingly saturated side of the genre. Coming together in the wake of former projects’ success is never easy, but both Oliver (of The Bronze Medallists,) and Victoria (of Victoria and Jacob) seem to pool their past triumphs and expertise to create a truly moving and dynamic listening experience. The two have no trouble finding the sweet spot between bubbly electropop and spacey dreampop, setting the tone of the track as delicate and electrifying all at once. Only time will tell what mood they conjure up next, and luckily the wait shouldn’t be too long with a debut album on the horizon. Until then, get a taste of what Polychrome has[...]
