Tonight: Turkuaz

Buffalo Iron Works is set to host Brooklyn-based powerfunk band, Turkuaz, this evening for undoubtedly the most fun you’ll have on a Wednesday. The band is no stranger to Buffalo, having played almost every stage that has been able to fit the nine-piece (Buffalo State’s Social Hall, Soundlab, Nietzsche’s, and now Iron Works.) Turkuaz, whose stock is rapidly rising on the festival circuit, combines soul and R&B to make an incredibly engaging sweaty show.  Fans of James Brown, Talking Heads, or Sly & The Family Stone would dig. Not to be forgotten is The Nth Power, who are equally as talented and buzzed about since their emergence at New Orleans Jazz Fest in 2012. Doors are at 8pm with a $16 cover.

Tonight: Turkuaz

Turkuaz, the nine-piece, power funk group from Brooklyn, in back in Buffalo and tonight’s show at Buffalo Iron Works is not one to miss. These guys throw it down with guitars, wind instruments, bass, percussion, keys, and backup vocals. This is funk turned up to 11. In addition to the power funk structure, a healthy mixture of both blues and more up beat pop makes for a complete and fulfilling sound. Not only will Turkuaz satisfy the funk fans out there, but there is no doubt that anyone into a more noodling jam will be just as impressed. If you are heading to the Harbor tonight, then Iron Works should be your next stop. Tickets are $15, doors at 9pm, show around 10pm. This is an 18+ show, so remember your ID. See you on the floor.

Tonight: Jimkata & Turkuaz

After Dark Entertainment lives up to it’s name this Halloween night when two frightfully funky bands take the stage at Waiting Room. Jimkata, an indie elctro-rock quartet from Ithaca, join Brooklyn-based funk machine, Turkuaz, for a night of good music and better vibes. Both acts are no stranger to Buffalo, frequently blessing the city with a rush of soulful jams and grooves. Turkuaz seems to be making a push to play every venue in town. See the funk collective, along with Jimkata, cross another one off the list later tonight at the Delaware Ave haunt. The 18+ show opens it’s doors at 9pm, and tickets are available both at the door and online for $15.

Tonight: Turkuaz with Alan Evans’ Playonbrother

Nietzsche’s is going to be the scene of a soul funk dance party tonight when Brooklyn funk powerhouse Turkuaz bring it back to Buffalo along with local hero Alan Evans’ latest project Playonbrother.  In town promoting their latest album Future 86, it’s always something when the soul funk army of Turkuaz takes over that tight stage and unleashes their focused yet rampaging brand of old school funk. Soulive’s (and City Honors alum) Alan Evans will be setting things off with his ultra soulful and jazzy Playonbrother, formerly known as the Alan Evans Trio. Prepare yourselves for righteous fun when Brooklyn, Buffalo, and the funk collide tonight. Tickets are $12 and the show starts at 10.
