Big Day In at the Haunt (12/05/15)

What more is there to say about Big Day In? Year after year, the one day festival hosted at the Haunt in Ithaca never disappoints with outrageous lineups , but I really think that this one takes the cake.  Due to a scheduling constraint I was only able to catch the latter end of the festival, the last six or so bands, and I’m really bummed, as I have heard nothing but good things about all bands featured on this year’s bill.  The festival not only featured some incredible local acts, but boasted some insane touring bands as well.  Check out some photos from the last five bands of the night below, and click here for a full gallery of photos from those bands. I want you to say it with me! The World is a Beautiful Place and I am no Longer Afraid to Die is not just another emo revival band! The World is a Beautiful Place and I am no Longer Afraid to Die is not just another emo band!  Sure, you’re probably going to look at their name and think to yourself, “Wow, that is definitely just another emo revival band,” and before the release of Harmlessness, I may have let that slide, but no longer. If you are going to only read the first paragraph of this review, this should be your takeaway. If you are into indie music, and I mean in any manner, LISTEN TO THIS RECORD. On Harmlessness, The World is a Beautiful Place comes through with their most undeniably thought out, well put together, concise release to date. In case you need any affirmation that emo is not dead, last night at Waiting Room was a strong reminder. All of the bands on last night’s bill brought their A game, all playing fantastic, on point sets. Take One Car opened the night with their heavy, talk rock oriented jams, followed by a lighthearted, mellow set from Virginia Beach’s Turnover. Pianos Become the Teeth found the perfect mix between mellow and extreme, delivering an incredibly passionate performance. Closing the night was The World is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, delivering another emotional set. Despite the heavy performance, the tone of the night was not too serious, as it wouldn’t be a World Is Beautiful set without an excessive amount of stage banter. Tonight: The World is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die

Emo lovers rejoice. Another absolutely stacked lineup makes it was to Waiting Room tonight. Taking the stage tonight will be indie emo/post rock outfit The World is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, fresh off of the announcement of a new album, Harmlessness, set to be released September 25th via Epitaph Records. The band has hyped the record as one of its most ambitious releases yet. Also on the bill is the post hardcore / screamo act turned turned soft (in a good way), Pianos Become The Teeth. Opening will be emo / pop punk outfit Turnover, making their much awaited return to Waiting Room. Turnover also embraced a softer, lighter sound on their latest release, Peripheral Vision, creating an incredible atmosphere throughout the new record.  First to take the stage will be the talk rock band Take One Car, also making their return to Buffalo.[...]

Just Announced: The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die

There was a time where I thought And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead was the longest band name ever. How naive of me. With that being said, After Dark announced this afternoon that the atmospheric indiemo octet, The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die (TWIABP), would be making a stop at Waiting Room on Friday, August 14th.  Fans of Explosions in the Sky, The Front Bottoms, or early Taking Back Sunday should buy tickets when they go on sale Friday, June 5th via Ticketfly.com. Another layer of this already delicious bill is the addition of Pianos Become Teeth  on this bill. Make sure you are over 16 or you bring your parent/cool guardian.
