‘Tid The Season Night Two at Riverworks (12/14/19)

It’s difficult to think of a band that puts on for their city harder than Every Time I Die. Over the years,  ETID’s holiday shows have become bigger and bigger,  and have evolved into a city wide phenomenon that can’t be ignored. The holiday shows have grown into a two day affair at Buffalo Riverworks, featuring 12 out of town bands of varying genres and two 25+ song headlining sets from Every Time I Die.  The second day featured sets from Seeyouspacesowboy, Candy, Mongol Horde, Cave In, The Get Up Kids, Ghostface Killah, and Glassjaw. Thousands of fans from all over the world flocked to Buffalo over the weekend, saw all that our city has to offer, supported our businesses, and witnessed what is always one of the craziest shows of the year. I’m sure everyone in attendance is already counting down the days until next year. Check out our photos from the second night of the shows below,[...]

Tonight: The Get Up Kids

Legendary Kansas act The Get Up Kids are rolling through Buffalo tonight… So lace up your ratty old converse and dust off that threadbare band t-shirt, this is probably the coolest thing you could go do on a Tuesday. Often cited as (some of) the godfathers of the emo genre, the band is sure to perform an incredible set full of fan favorites and deep cuts from their impressive 20+ year career. They also have fellow emo-veteran Evan Weiss in tow in his buzzing emo-pop band Pet Symmetry. For those that haven’t heard, this show has been moved from the Waiting Room to Town Ballroom – tickets purchased for Waiting Room are valid and will be honored at the show. Doors are at 7pm. Tickets are $20 advance, $25 at the doors.  This show is 16+ with ID, under 16 will be let in with an adult.

Tonight: Matt Pryor & Dan Andriano

Tonight, two legendary musicians are swinging through Buffalo on their acoustic, co-headlining tour. You may recognize Matt Pryor for his role as front man for Kansas emo pioneers The Get Up Kids. Co-headliner Dan Andriano is the bassist for the equally-influential punk rock outfit Alkaline Trio. Together, they’re touring the country playing acoustic sets that are sure to span both musicians’ impressive catalogs. They’re also offering a tour-exclusive 7″ that they’ve put out together (featuring a collaborative cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Cecelia” – check it out below). Stress Dolls‘ Chelsea O’Donnell will be kicking off the evening tonight. Tonight’s show is at 8:00pm at the 9th Ward at Babeville. Tickets are $15 pre-show and $18 at the door.

The Get Up Kids @ Waiting Room (3/25/15)

With a belly full of Joe’s Deli and two very heavy eyelids, I made my way to Waiting Room last night to see The Get Up Kids (TGUK). Approaching the door, I couldn’t help but calculate the median age of the crowd, which was probably somewhere around 27… Let’s just say that in lieu of x-ed out hands, I saw parents checking nanny cams on smart phones. Pixie cuts and shaved heads were a plenty. Ironically, TGUK were out on the “Spring Break” tour – I’d bet only 15% of the crowd was actually on spring break. I walked in on song two or three of Restorations’ set. The band’s vocalist reminded me pretty strongly of The Gaslight Anthem. They had a “vibey” feel. I enjoyed their set, but I spent most of it trying to find a comfortable place to lean my ragged 25 year old body. PUP took[...]

Tonight: The Get Up Kids

The Get Up Kids are just one of those quintessential emo bands. They have had an everlasting effect on the scene, helping ushering in a new era of bands in the genre. Tonight, the long time group is bringing it’s tour to Buffalo with a sold out show at Waiting Room. You might remember last year when one of the opening bands, PUP, put on one of the most incredibly fun live sets played in Buffalo, period. Opening alongside with PUP is indie outfit Restorations. This is an incredibly stacked lineup that you won’t want to miss. Doors at Waiting Room will open tonight at 6:30pm.  If you didn’t get your hands on tickets, you might be out of luck as this show is already sold out, but if you scrounge Facebook this afternoon, you might be able to find a ticket for sale.
