The Day – “Empty”

There’s no denying the energy on this latest jam from Netherlands-based act The Day… In fact, we like it so much, this is our second feature about the song (more on that later). Beyond the earworm melodies and incredible mix of dream-pop and shoegaze, we’d like to draw your eyes to the stunning new video for “Empty.” There’s an obvious use of symbolism here, and while we find it super aesthetic to the eye, the band does a great job of explaining where they’re coming from: “We were using dead flowers, plastic sheets, and soil in an abandoned, run-down apartment. We were looking looking for subversive, disruptive, [&] nervous flickering images that could tell us something about the fight between nature and mankind.” In case you’re wondering, this isn’t the first time we’ve written about The Day – we’ve previously featured their song “We Killed Our Hearts” and previously wrote[...]

The Day – “Empty”

We’ve raved about Netherlands-based dream-pop duo The Day before – both in their cover of The Lemonheads’ “Tenderfoot” and their ethereal indie rocker “We Killed Our Hearts.” They’re back with another stunning slice of indie pop, a song called “Empty.” With strong, polished production value, a driven drumbeat, tasty chord progressions, and singer Laura Loeters’ catchy vocal melodies, this one is sure to get your energy levels up… But beneath the smart songcraft, there’s a deeper message to “Empty:” “There’s so much that needs to be done. So much that needs to change for this world. And then we always come up against limits and glass ceilings… We need to do much more. We need to listen much more to the youth, to the new generation!” We think you’re gonna like this one – preview it below via Soundcloud and don’t forget to add it to your favorite Spotify playlist.[...]

The Day – “We Killed Our Hearts”

Dutch duo The Day are here with a stunning indie rocker titled “We Killed Our Hearts.” Laura Loeters and Gregor Sonnenberg are no strangers to buffaBLOG – we really enjoyed their previous offering, a cover of the Lemonheads’ “Tenderfoot.” Fans of Mazzy Star, Men I Trust, or Slowdive will quickly find solace in The Day’s driving, but ethereal take on indie rock. Check out the gorgeously-shot music video below or enjoy via Spotify.

The Day – “Tenderfoot” (The Lemonheads/Smudge Cover)

Cover inception! We’re digging this take on “Tenderfoot” – a classic cover from The Lemonheads who put their own spin on Smudge’s original take. Dreamy, Netherlands dream-pop duo The Day made this one their own with an ethereal vocal track and a simple, but incredibly tasteful electric/acoustic guitar backbone. This one is beautifully jangly, just the right amount punky, with a tinge of emo greatness – amazing all around. Listen for yourself below.
