Tonight: Big Huge

Tonight Sugar City will be the scene of a glorious power rock revival the likes of which has not been seen in a long time when New York City’s Big Huge makes their local debut. Taking the tight songwriting, unadulterated fun and crisp riffage of 80’s Top 40 rock while amputating the corporate slickness and replacing it with proper DIY downtown rock bravado, Big Huge feels just right, especially as showcased on their tasteful but kick ass debut LP Cruel World. Opening the show will be local punks Uniform(OPR), avante garde noise rockers Welks Mice, and psychedelic punk rockers Slow Mutants. Doors open at 8pm with music starting promptly at 8:30pm to honor Sugar City’s curfew and their neighbors. Cover is $7-$10 depending what you can kick in. CRUEL WORLD by BIG HUGE

Tonight: Decorum

Brooklyn’s three piece outfit Decorum takes a hold of the post-punk revitalization movement and makes it their own. The often jangly, spindly guitars that are found throughout the genre are vacant, as Decorum consists of a dual bass set-up and drums. Taking the various flavors the low end has in post-punk and playing both at the same time creates atmospheric textures while still staying true to the genre. Swirling around, in almost a cyclical nature Decorum incorporates a dark, moody sound that’s strung out and made thin, wisp like, on top of which are early shoegaze, breath-like vocals. Supporting Decorum  at Dreamland will be locals, Orations, who are just coming off their stellar post-punk LP, Wych Elm, along with Slow Mutants who always seem to bring a ton of energy to their shows, and post-punk trio, The Patterns. This is a post-punk night not to miss. Show at 7pm. $6 to[...]

Tonight: Palberta

If you’re looking for something to do this Monday night, Sugar City has you covered.  Brooklyn act, Palberta, will be rolling through Buffalo tonight, with some support from some great local acts.  Palberta is hot off some good press from Rolling Stone, and while I could attempt to explain their bizarre style of music, I think you’re just better off going to the show to see for yourself. Kicking off the show will be three local acts, Award Show, Slow Mutants, and dildoN’t.  Sugar City is a drug and alcohol free space located at 1239 Niagara Street.  The show is only six bucks and kicks off at 7pm.

Tonight: Palberta

Head down to Milkies on Elmwood tonight for a nice little freaky Tuesday night treat.  This will be your final chance to catch Buffalo act Jamie and the Debt, as one member will shortly be moving to the land down under.  Other locals on the bill include Slow Mutants and Much Band.  The bill will also feature the undefinable Palberta from NYC.  There’s no doubt in my mind that things are sure to get a little freaky tonight. The show is set to kick off at 8pm at Milkies, with a small cover charge of only 3 bucks. Head out to see some great live acts and send off Jamie and the Debt the right way.
