Tonight: Herd Fest Day One

Tonight is the night. After close to nine months of planning Herd Fest is finally launched. This year we did things different. In the past we subcontracted shows to various scene reps and labels in order to diversify the voices being represented for the festival. This highly collaborative process was fun and confusing so we decided to do things different this year. For our third year, we took the reigns and centrally booked all of the shows. We had bands go through an application process in order to diversify and cater to fans of up-and-coming indie acts, resulting in four days of showcases at seven venues with 67 bands set to perform. Passive Aggressives Anonymous Releases New Single “Many at Once”

Tongue-in-cheek, Rochester crooner John Valenti and his band Passive Aggressives Anonymous have released a new single this morning, titled “Many at Once,” the follow up to the group’s late 2014 EP, Not so long songs of longing. If this is your first introduction to Valenti, think laid back Father John Misty showmanship meets Jens Lekman heart on his sleeve charm. PAA’s whimsical new song details the pros to keeping your options open when it comes to the opposite sex, all while striking riffs and fluttering strings back the dreamy, lounge ready number. In other Valenti news, the songwriter recently directed a clip for Kingston, NY musician Shana Falana. The video features appearances by fellow Roch musicans and Valenti buddies Buffalo Sex Change and just premiered yesterday on Paste. Check it out here.[...]

Tonight: Shana Falana

The Hive is set to host one of the most impressive bills of the month tonight in its tiny DIY attic. Headlining the bill is buzzing Kingston, NY-based duo, Shana Falana. The act is currently on a multi-month tour, supporting the April 7th release of Set Your Lightning Fire Free via Team Love Records (Tilly and the Wall, Roz and the Rice Cakes). If you are a fan of shoegaze with powerful female vocals, you should probably be at The Hive. Supporting Falana is Rochester lo-fi tag team, Buffalo Sex Change, indie-pop trio, The Tins, and a stripped down acoustic set from a hibernating Aircraft. $6 doors and it’s super early. Like 7pm early. If you don’t know where the Hive is, I would ask someone who does.
