Tonight: RiFF RAFF

Houston rapper RiFF RAFF quickly established himself as one of the genre’s most outlandish personalities upon debuting with his Birth Of An Icon mixtape on Mad Decent label back in 2011. The notoriously collaborative artist has worked with an eclectic mix of names including Danny Brown, Diplo, Gucci Mane, Action Bronson, Childish Gambino, and Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors. With two studio albums to date, 2014’s Neon Icon and last year’s Peach Panther, the emcee is set to release his latest effort Aquaberry Aquarius on January 29th. Tonight RiFF RAFF will perform at The Waiting Room with support from Pittsburgh rapper Owey, DollaBillGates, Peter Jackson, DJ Afterthought, Pirate Gang, and Jess Classic. Doors open at 6pm and tickets are $20.

RIFF RAFF – NEON iCON

Gonzo internet rapper RiFF RAFF has achieved the kind of success that is uniquely 21st century; his distinctive look, humorous Twitter account, and cartoonish brand of materialism have made him something of an absurdist icon within the rap community, despite his remaining unsigned for the majority of his career. In this way and others, he is similar to Lil B – both have become popular through Twitter, developed a distinct lexicon (RiFF RAFF with his constant Versace references, and Lil B with his Based terminology), and been given beats by Mac Miller. Another thing the two have in common is the skepticism with which they have been greeted by rap traditionalists. Neither have much in the way of technical skills, and volley between serious rapping and humorous swag rap. But while Lil B has a clearly defined personality in his music, RiFF RAFF has always been harder to peg –[...]

RiFF RAFF – “How To Be The Man”

It’s Versace season everybody! Fresh off the announcement that his long-delayed debut album, Neon Icon, will be dropping June 24th, Mad Decent rapper RiFF RAFF provided us with the visuals for “How To Be The Man.” RiFF first dropped this track about 5 months ago, and comparing the size of his dog (Jody Husky) in this video to recent pictures, it looks like this video was recorded a while back as well. Filled with ridiculous pop-up neon graphics, random celebrity shout-outs, and models wearing one-piece bathing suits, it is a uniquely RiFF RAFF experience.
