Pet Snake – “Trust Issues”

“Trust Issues” is the latest from Pet Snake’s Hard EP – released earlier about a week ago under Dance to the Radio Records. The solo project of Liverpool based Evelyn Halls, “Trust Issues” continues her crushing yet earnest brand of indie folk tinged pop. Featuring a soothing a mix of acoustic guitar with a light touch on drums and bass, Halls’ echoey vocals mesh well into what I can only describe as delightfully warm, even given the subject matter. Fans of Sharon Van Etten or Angel Olsen would find a lot to enjoy here; the way Halls shares her emotions with the listener along with perfectly orchestrated melodies being the biggest similarities. You can hear “Trust Issues” below from YouTube or save the entire EP to your sad but beautiful feelings mix on Spotify. Not just me who has that, right…right? Pet Snake – “Getting Older”

“Getting Older” is the latest from Evelyn Halls, aka Pet Snake. Singing in a lovely lullaby singsong voice, Halls evokes fellow indie luminaries boygenius and Mitski on this slow burning indie rocker. The buildup and layering of guitars is masterfully done, leading up to a lyrical crescendo that ties everything together with a crushing narrative. At five-plus minutes, “Older” comes and goes before you know it – definitely a beautiful addition to the subdued indie rock scene and certainly someone to keep an eye one. Speaking to the song, Halls had this to say: “It’s an anthem for myself to shout from the rooftops that I’m overjoyed to be alive and grateful to those who helped get me here. It’s me trying to turn my contentment into a song and the fact that I get to shout out my therapist…” You can hear “Getting Older” on Spotify or the embedded YouTube[...]

Pet Snake – “Jacket”

Liverpool-based act Pet Snake (aka songwriter Evelyn Halls) finally struck out on her own and happened to create something magical. “Jacket” is her latest offering, a song that pairs influences ranging from folk; to bedroom-pop; to alternative music. Utilizing a canned Casio beat with more organic elements like guitars and a thumping bass, the song makes use of of memorable melodies; squiggly synth textures; and even a few ooh-oohs for good measure. There’s even an accompanying music video that perfectly represents the song’s uplifting and vaguely-nostalgic vibes. You can also find “Jacket” on Spotify.
