Basement at Rec Room (05/17/19)

This past Friday, UK indie/pop punk outfit, Basement, made their return to Buffalo.  Following their appearance a little over a year ago opening for The Front Bottoms at Riverworks, they now have a new album under their belt, titled Beside Myself.  Though the group’s sound has slightly drifted from their original roots, it seemed to have work out for the better, as their fan base seems more passionate than ever.  Buffalo showed up for the show, the crowd seemed to love every minute of their set, filling out the Rec Room.  Their set list included a handful of new tracks, as well as a bunch of old ragers. Both the old and new kept the crowd moving throughout the entire set, and they treated Buffalo to a great show. The gig was kicked off with a tight set from 90’s inspired grunge/emo four piece Teenage Wrist, as well as a exceptional, immensely loud set from[...]

Tonight: Basement

Tonight, England’s Basement invades Buffalo’s own Rec Room on Chippewa for potentially one of the best rock shows you’ll see all year. The group has done a good job of keeping us patiently waiting for another show since their visit to see us last spring at Mohawk Place. Since then, they’ve released Beside Myself in October of 2018, which is full of ear catching hits including “Be Here Now.” Joining them for the evening are Philadelphia rockers Nothing, as well as L.A. alternative/grunge revivalists; Teenage Wrist, who have just released the enticing 3-song EP entitled Counting Flies. Doors at 7pm with a $20 advanced ticket. Beside Myself by BasementWritten by Mike Rakiecki

Torche w/ Nothing and WRONG at Mohawk Place (3/23/15)

It’s shows like this that really make me happy that Mohawk Place is back in action. There is just a certain vibe there that other venues downtown can’t really recreate. This past Monday,  Florida sludge rock titans, Torche, brought their tour to town, along with WRONG and Nothing. Torche and crew were one of the loudest shows I have ever been to, and it will also go down as one of my favorites. Not only was this the first show that I shot for the blog, but every single one of the bands seemed to be having a blast, even more so than usual. WRONG and Torche put on two of the heaviest sets I have seen in a long time, while Nothing put on easily the best live set of shoegaze music I have seen, period. Tonight: Torche

Following the release of its highly acclaimed February album, Restarter, Miami’s stoner/sludge metal heroes, Torche, makes its way to Buffalo tonight to Mohawk Place for a night full of riffing. Opening the show will be Florida band WRONG, followed by Philly shoegaze outfit Nothing. This is sure to be a very loud show, so bring your earplugs along to this one. Doors open at 8pm, and tickets are $17 at the door.  Beware though, as of this morning, there were only about 70 left, so try to make it as doors open.
