JW Francis – “Good Time”

BuffaBLOG mainstay JW Francis is at it again, this time with his latest jam, “Good Time.” The Oklahoma-born, Paris-raised, NYC-based singer/songwriter specializes in delightfully warbly bedroom pop with a warped-vinyl aesthetic. “Good Time” is another gem in his repertoire, full of AM-radio guitar twinkles, gauzy synths, and a sun-soaked mentality disguising the bit of melancholy that colors his lyrics. Kaio Mars – “All I Need”

Here’s the sunny, swimmy debut single from singer/songwriter Kaio Mars, “All I Need.” Kaio Mars is otherwise known as Aidin Sadeghi; Sadeghi was born in Germany to Iranian parents fleeing post-revolution Iran. About “All I Need,” Mars says: “[‘All I Need’] serves as a reminder of what draws people to music in the first place and to embrace our individual experiences for the unique treasures that they are rather than trying to conform to some imaginary standard purported by a white-dominated industry.” Beyond it’s powerful message, “All I Need” is a super catchy indie pop jam with reverb-drenched goodness in every morsel. Tobias Dray – “Baddest (feat. Abel)”

Electronica producer Tobias Dray nailed it on his latest banger, “Baddest.” Driven by a sassy and sultry vocal performance from Abel, “Baddest” is funky and groovy with a distinctly 2020s tinge. That being said, we can’t help but feel some nostalgic and infectious 90s pop influence on this one (eat your heart out Mariah Carey). Zooni – “Cascara”

“Cascara” is a haunting indietronica jam from Brighton art-pop quartet Zooni. Bringing to mind Radiohead, Liars, or a subdued Animal Collective, “Zooni” is full of worldly noises, stabs of guitar, deep drum/bass grooves, and a starkly beautiful falsetto vocal. This is the perfect jam to lull you into a deep, otherworldly trance – probably best heard and experienced for yourself. sakura – “Circles”

Loving this latest, lovely indie pop jam from Vienna-based singer/songwriter sakura. “Circles” is an easy-going indie jam with perfect bedroom vibes – low-key guitars, splashes of synth, nimble basslines, and Sakura’s moody vocals all go down quite smoothly. Fans of Clairo, Turnover, or Liz Phair are gonna love this one for its refreshing simplicity and open-booked emotions. Sunken – “Visions of You”

The brother/sister Billingham duo are the songwriting team behind Sunken – their kinship resulted in “Visions of You,” one of our new favorite jams. Finding common ground through music, the duo is now crafting delightfully icy indie rock as a quartet. Laced with synth textures, chorus-laden guitars, and Poppy’s lilting vocal delivery, Sunken’s stuff is moody but captivating, making it great for anytime listening. Lil Seyi – “Tambourine”

Mmmm, here’s a delicious one from wunderkind producer Lil Seyi. “Tambourine” is a tasteful blend of 70s funk and modern hip hop, feeling like a blend of Thundercat, Tyler the Creator, and Tame Impala. Beyond the addictive bassline – this one is full of electronic flourishes, clever samples, and unique vocal effects that will suck you right in. Lacto-Ovo – “Black and White Cats”

Loving this latest one from recently-reunited quintet Lacto-Ovo. After a 20 year (yes, twenty) hiatus, they are back with Shoes & You, featuring this little jam we’re quite fond of. “Black and White Cats” has the squiggly sentiment of Casio keyboard magic intertwined with heartfelt emo/indie jangle guitars. TOOTHSOME – “Shark Eggs/Pirouette”

Digging this one from veritable North Carolina supergroup TOOTHSOME. “Shark Eggs/Pirouette” is a super-unique jangle pop jam full of keyboard flourishes, Hold Steady-esque vocals, and eclectic vibes all around. You can certainly hear this group’s influences throughout this song (The Cure, Weezer, etc.), but songwriting this unique can only come from years of grinding and experience. Bryan Dubay – “Elizabeth Short”

Bryan Dubay is a Buffalo-based artist whose new single “Elizabeth Short” recently caught our attention. Elizabeth Short is probably better known as the Black Dahlia; inspired by a playthrough of LA Noire, Dubay set out to write a song in her honor. It’s an indie-electronica jam with a guitar-driven backbone… But Dubay’s music truly shines as all of the electronic flourishes that he paints into the background ebb and flow. Vern Matz – “Mall of America”

Somber but sweet, we’ve been jamming on this latest song from Vern Matz called “Mall of America.” Propelled by distinctly autumnal vibes, acoustic guitar strums, gentle vibes, and reverbed-out vocals, this one is reminiscent of The Shins, American Analog Set, or Fruit Bats. Folksy (but not too folksy) and ethereal, this is perfect chill-out music – slap this one on your Spotify playlist if you’re digging it.

Playfield 7 – “Free 21 Res”

Something about Playfield 7‘s bedroom-gaze is very captivating. Reminiscent of early Slowdive or a subdued My Bloody Valentine, “Free 21 Res” is a shiny, blissed-out gem full of droning guitars, far-off vocals, and a surprising amount of pop sentiment. Thantophobe – “Tie Me Down”

Thantophobe just released a new music video for their latest jam, “Tie Me Down.” This one is a super chill indie rocker with hints of folk, shoegaze, and psychedelic elements. Propelled by an acoustic guitar backbone, “Tie Me Down” is also full of low-key vocals and squiggly, tape-aged guitar leads, all of which combine into a timeless sound. They’ve also given it an official music video treatment, full of exposed-film aesthetics and karaoke imagery. We think this one is an all-around winner – watch the vid below.  

CRi x Bernache – “From Me”

There’s something hypnotic about the vocal samples on “From Me,” the latest collab between producer CRi and Bernache (aka vocalist Emma Proulx of Men I Trust fame). Vaguely intelligible blasts of “I’m done I’m done I’m done I’m done / a-oo-a-oo-a-oo-a-ooo / KC KC KC KC” just add to the mysteriousness of this one – which, on the other hand, is a surprisingly catchy pop jam in its own right.
