Roller Derby started earlier this year (2020) and they are already creating excellent indie pop reminiscent of genre greats like Alvvays or Men I Trust. “Flying High” is a dreamy stunner with vaguely romantic lyrics that are sure to resonate with any forlorn heart. There’s something timeless about Roller Derby’s sound – it could sit as comfortably on a shelf next to The Cure as it would next to the latest Angel Olson release. Alfie Templeman – “Wait, I Lied (Live)”

Loving this live session from 17-year-old wunderkind Alfie Templeman. The young Bedfordshire native caught our ears with the springy, nu-disco-tinged “Wait, I Lied.” The professional video shoot helps for sure, but there’s just something captivating about Alfie himself. Walboom – “Young Love”

Last time we checked in with trans-continental duo Walboom, we were jamming out to their excellent indie-popper “Vultures.”  The Canadian (Andrew Shier) and the Australian (Rhys Lintern) have done it again, this time with the hazy alt rock of “Young Love.” Starting out with some irresistible ba-ba-bas, “Young Love” is full of rolling tom beats, noodly guitar flourishes, and lovelorn lyrics. COVID may have forced this talented duo apart… But at least it’s not affecting their affinity for writing amazing indie rock. My Ugly Clementine – “I’m Boring”

Digging this heartfelt indie rocker from Austrian quartet My Ugly Clementine. “I’m Boring” is a waltz, which gives it a dreamy and hypnotic feel… But a surprising amount of its appeal comes from the heartfelt, self-deprecating lyrical content (featuring the perfect amount of f-bombs). This Vienna-based crew explores themes of miscommunication and disillusionment through a dreamy, but visceral guitar-based sound reminiscent of Phoebe Bridgers, Haim, or Mazzy Star. Crystal Canyon – “Every Little Star”

Crystal Canyon are here to take you on a shoegaze journey; we couldn’t help but be mesmerized by their latest offering, “Every Little Star.” At 7+ minutes, this one is definitely a commitment… But it’s certainly worth it. This Maine-based act stuffed this one full of an amazing juxtaposition of guitar jangle and wall-of-sound fuzz, plus a pleasantly ghostly vocal track. All in all, this one will appeal to fans of My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, and Pity Sex for sure. Faux Canada – “Glass Is a Mirror”

Digging this fun indie rocker from San Francisco act Faux Canada. Inspired by the early 00s indie rock scene (think Metric, Arcade Fire, etc.), “Glass Is a Mirror” is a bouncy blast of staccato guitars, thumping bass rhythms, and dreamy vocals. Fun fact: this one was composed 100% remotely (thanks COVID). Rolo – “Thieves”

Here’s a dope jam from Germany’s Rolo. “Thieves” takes a nod from In Rainbows-era Radiohead – with it’s ultra tight drum and bass groove and Yorke-esque guitar lines, it’s pleasantly reminiscent while still retaining its own personality. Rolo’s voice is his own though, and the lyrics on this one feel sincere and unique. We kept coming back to this one for more and we think you will too – check it out below or on Spotify.

Peach Luffe – “Golden Parachutes”

Here’s an ethereal collab between Peach Luffe and remixer Kyyhky – “Golden Parachutes” is rooted in a deep bass rhythm, but there are smatterings of delay-driven guitar noise plastered throughout… Think infinite ricochets in an otherwise chilled-out jam. Beyond that, Luffe’s catchy vocal lines sit overtop the mix perfectly, giving this one a perfect balance between instrumental interest, vocal hooks, and whole-body vibes. Remington Super 60 – “I Won’t Change My Mind”

Last time we checked in with Norwegian trio Remington Super 60, we were digging on their ultra-chiller summer single, “Still Near.” They’re back again with another soul-soother; this time it’s a song called “I Won’t Change My Mind.” Full of airy atmosphere, squiggly synths, and an ultra-bouncy bassline, this one will immediately appeal to fans of Beach House, Alvvays, or Mazzy Star. Here’s a sassy kiss-off from LA-based spill tab. Taking influence from Litany and Japanese House, “name” feels like a pleasant mix of indie pop, dream-pop, and electronica. Full of lots of proverbial (and literal) eff-yous, the brutally honest lyrics of this one really hit home… But beyond that, this one is instrumentally/production-wise crisp AF at a brisk 1:49 in length. Viktor Longo – “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas”

Can’t help but love this new take on an old classic. Brooklyn’s Viktor Longo adds his baritone swagger to “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas,” turning it from a traditional holiday song into something fun and quirky in the realm of indietronica. This one also features Dave Eggar, probably best known as the guy who does strings for Frank Ocean, Coldplay and Fiona Apple. Either way, this one breathed a bit of life into this dusty (but trusty!) old tune – we think you’ll like it too. Lon Lon – “Canyon”

Digging the upbeat indie rocking vibes from Lon Lon here on “Canyon.” The Pasadena, CA act seem to have stumbled on that fine line between bedroom-recording and great songwriting – this one sounds like it would be a banger in a packed basement show (RIP), just as much as it would on a big stage (RIP). Full of cool guitar work, digestible progressions, and borderline slacker vocals, this one comes and goes before you even know what hit you. Dream Reporter – “Long Distance”

Here’s a wistful one from London singer/songwriter Dream Reporter. Self-described as “dreamwave” (which is honestly pretty accurate), “Long Distance” finds the singer lamenting the complications of loving in a long-distance relationship. This one rocks back and forth between a simple, indie rock chord progression, but is truly brought to life by the lovely, forlorn guitars and blasts of delay feedback… Not to mention the excellent and captivating vocals. Broken Down Golf Cart – “Blood Spiders”

Here’s a brooding one from UK act Broken Down Golf Cart. “Blood Spiders” is a lo-fi indie rock jam with hints of retro surf flavor – think Best Coast meets Beach House. BDGC has layered “Spiders” with lots of cool guitar riffs, shuffling drums, and an underrated bass line, but the cherry-on-top here comes in the form of the illustrative music video accompaniment. It’s a charming and colorful story about the trials and tribulations of two intrepid blood spiders. The aesthetic here is all-around dead on – we think you’ll like it too. Suave Punk – “Dreams of Losing Teeth”

Suave Punk serving up a wall-of-noise here with their latest offering, “Dreams of Losing Teeth.” Falling someplace on the spectrum between shoegaze, dream-pop, and bedroom-pop, “Dreams” inexplicably sounds like The Dismemberment Plan mixed with My Bloody Valentine mixed with Clairo. It’s blown-out, but tastefully so. Melodic, but lo-fi. Certainly one of those can’t-quite-put-your-finger-on-it kind of songs that you can’t quite help but love.
