TRASH – “Give Up”

“If only all rubbish smelt so sweet.” Genius! TRASH is a spry quartet from Chesterfield who won us over with the shimmery indie punk of “Give Up.” The young Brits specialize in jangly guitar pop speckled with waves of lo-fi brilliance. With only two years experience under their belt, the band is already appearing at a number of festival dates this year. Recommended for fans of Cloud Nothings, Tapes N’ Tapes, or Yuck. “Give Up” is out now via Clue Records. Geowulf – “Saltwater”

Beachpoppers Geowulf have us swooning over their breezy, funk-tinged anthem, “Saltwater.” Their use of lush, reverb-soaked vocals and whirling organ-tone synths evoke a soothing, vintage vibe despite their very relevant approach to indie rock. The duo makes breezy, carefree summer-pop a la Alvvays, Beach House, and Best Coast. “Saltwater” is available on a bunch of formats – check them all out here. Bridesmen – “Empty”

You might recognize Kenton Chen from his work with HOLYCHILD, Ben Folds, or Rozzi Crane. You may have also seen him on NBC’s the Sing-Off and Postmodern Jukebox. His new solo project is called Bridesmen, and it’s a radical departure from his jazz and a cappella roots. He explores the darker side of human nature and how to be a good person in a world that ostracizes you, i.e. “a bridesman at a wedding.” Keep your eyes open for Bridesmen’s debut EP, coming soon. Micah Manaitai – “Låhi Amerikanu”

Micah Manaitai is a 21-year-old multi-instrumentalist born in Guam, raised in St. Louis, and currently stationed in LA. Manaitai blends the warmth of 1970s Pacific Island music with the attitude and experimentation of today’s indie rock musicians. Micah owes just as much to Tame Impala as he does to the Makaha Sons of Ni’ihau. Manaitai’s Modern Sounds in Island and Popular Music is available for “pay what you want” on Bandcamp. We recommend starting with “Låhi Amerikanu.” [soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/269692034″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Conditioner – “That’s Not Me”

Wonky, hipster-soul act Conditioner have us vibing on their new track, “That’s Not Me.” They said it best – “[“That’s Not Me”] is about acknowledging that you and someone you love are on different paths, and that you just don’t have it in you to change yourself to make it work – the music itself tries to capture the disappointment, disorientation, and fleeting moments of joy that accompany that realization.” Their warbly guitars and gentle keyboard palate certainly accomplish that – their music is reminiscent of MGMT, Tame Impala, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Conditioner have been tearing it up on Spotify – try checking them out there. Maria Kelly – “Black & Blue”

Irish singer/songwriter Maria Kelly wowed us with the acoustic simplicity of her new track “Black & Blue.” Her vulnerable brand of folk is endearing, as demonstrated by Kelly’s pin-drop vocals and charming lyricism. Fans of She & Him, Regina Spektor, and Ingrid Michaelson would feel right at home with Maria Kelly. “Black & Blue” is out now via Veta Records. Stream it on Spotify. Sea Span – “Refugees”

Sea Span combines wispy acoustic guitars, airy falsetto delivery, and electronic drums to create their own sparkly and ambient version of baroque pop. “Refugee” sounds like Dallas Green and the Postal Service collaborated, mixing delicate and passionate vocals with pop electronica vibes. Fans of City and Colour, Bon Iver, or Stars would dig Sea Span. “Refugee” is free if you’re willing to follow this link. fiancé – “h.a.g.s.”

Delaware quintet fiancé released a debut, self-titled record this past February… It was right around then that they started to feel a bit burnt out (real talk: being in a band is hard work). The dudes needed a refresher and decided to release their songs as they wrote them instead. “h.a.g.s.” is their first, post-self-titled. It’s a warbling, 80s-tinged indietronica jam a la Big Eater, Washed Out, or The Cure. Check out fiancé’s Bandcamp page if you’re into it.
