The lineup will feature local indie folk project Tough Old Bird *, a project headed by siblings Matthew and Nathan Corrigan, who have been playing the Western NY circuit for close to ten years. Recently, the band has expanded from an acoustic act to a fuller sound. Also on the bill is a rare appearance for busker-Americana act Jungle Steve with a full band, singer/songwriter John Herr and improv avant-garde trio plantwater. Must See Shows (12.18.24-12.24.24)

Saturday, December 21st @ 7:30pm buffaBLOG Holiday Party @ Milkies Well, we’re back. These past few months we have been increasing our content load and getting back on the saddle to provide our normal churn of quality local and regional bands for your listening pleasure. With that, we wanted to re-establish some of our defunct annual traditions, which include our heavily attended annual Holiday Party. Previously, we hosted this event annually at DBGB’s, however with the closure of the establishment, we had to find a new home for the showcase and we are happy to now collaborate with Milkies for this upcoming event. If you haven’t wandered to that section of Elmwood over the past couple years, the lounge underwent a giant revamp of their menu, branding, and interior since 2023 when the general manager Nikki Rosenberg took the realm. Our past holiday parties have featured performances by JOYWAVE, Humble Braggers, Newish Star, RADARADA, The Slums,[...]

Matches Laces – Matches Laces EP

Chronologically speaking, Matches Laces may be a name that’s new to your ears, but a deeper dive will tell you it’s actually the moniker of a Buffalo music scene stalwart. Mike Santillo has been kicking around town for more than a decade as 1/3 of beloved Buffalo-based indie rockers The Tins. Santillo’s desire to combine organic and synthetic sounds has resulted in a batch of eight new songs, affectionately self-titled the Matches Laces EP. Soothing, vintage-sounding synths fill every space on this release – expect lots of rigid arpeggiation and mechanical drum machine percussion being combined into something surprisingly warm and human-sounding. Matches Laces first strikes a flame with album opener “Didn’t You Lie To Me?” With its pleasing ascending chord progression and Santillo’s falsetto vocals, fans of MGMT, Passion Pit, and Tame Impala will find themselves smitten. Throughout the song, arpeggiated synths twinkle brightly over a simple-but-effective bassline while puffs[...]

Matches Laces

After more than a decade of writing and performing with indie rock band, The Tins, Mike Santillo is creatingmusic under a new moniker. Primarily a recording project, Matches Laces combines electronic and natural elements, including moody sci- synths, dark acoustic guitar, retro drum machines, eld recording samples and layered vocal harmonies to create a mix of somber and upbeat pop-leaning songs. In an interview with1120 Press, Santillo says, “everything I’m writing, I kind of write and record as I write. The songs kind of write themselves as I’m recording and adding layers. “These recorded layers have come together to form an 8 song EP. In the self-titled debut, Santillo explores heart break by examining past relationship dynamics, contemplates the nite nature of existence while re-solving to focus on the love there is in the moment, and tracks time just existing in mundanity, “sitting down by the water to pass the[...]
