Tonight: Palberta

Head down to Milkies on Elmwood tonight for a nice little freaky Tuesday night treat.  This will be your final chance to catch Buffalo act Jamie and the Debt, as one member will shortly be moving to the land down under.  Other locals on the bill include Slow Mutants and Much Band.  The bill will also feature the undefinable Palberta from NYC.  There’s no doubt in my mind that things are sure to get a little freaky tonight. The show is set to kick off at 8pm at Milkies, with a small cover charge of only 3 bucks. Head out to see some great live acts and send off Jamie and the Debt the right way.

Tonight: Peelander-Z

Peelander-Z lands at Mohawk tonight with Super Killer Robots and Jamie and the Debt. Peelander, from New York/outer space via Japan, are pure punk rock fun, with a raucous live show. The last time the group rolled through town, the bonkers show included a good deal of the audience on percussion and Goo Goo Dolls member Robby Takac sitting in on guitar. Local robots Super Killer Robots have been busy on the scene circuit will join the far out antics. Buffalo DIY hero Jamie and the Debt will open. Tonight doors are at 7pm, music at 8pm, and the cover is $8.

Tonight: Pam Swarts, Fashion Expo 1990, and many more

In what is probably the largest non-festival local bill so far this year, Mohawk Place will play host to a deliciously wide spectrum of musical talent tonight. Beginning at 8pm, with no definitive headliner, tonight’s performances are to include the eclectic klezmer vibes of Ahavaraba, the powerful acoustic songwriting of Lara Buckley, Different Planets’ electronoise lounge beats, Rochester’s Makeshift Letterbox and their thick and eerie post rock, abrasive feminist punkers Jamie and the Debt, Pam Swarts’ beautifully layered art rock expeditions, Buffalo’s favorite saucy alt rap duo Jack Topht and Little Cake, and finally electro/house duo Fashion Expo 1990, who will be closing out the night at 11:30. *Inhales deeply* Mohawk Place will be divided into two separate stages for the monster of a bill, with live music being played endlessly from 8pm until after midnight. I know it’s getting warm out, but don’t wear flip-flops—more than just a few[...]

Tonight: The Lopez

Tonight should be a rowdy one for Buffalo’s growing DIY scene with two legit out-of-towners plugging in their amps in The Northrup’s basement. PIttsburgh-based duo, The Lopez, is set to head to play headline, if that’s the proper term for a tiny basement show. Self-coined as “snot rock,”  The Lopez’ playful keyboards, fuzzy guitars, and a bouncy drum machine concoct a fun sound that fits somewhere in the middle of a vein diagram of Le Tigre, Sheer Mags, and The Buzzcocks.  Also set to play are Dallas-based punk-group Slimy Member, with local support from feminist-garde Boy Scouts, spooky low-fiers Space is Haunted, and the gripping wails of Jamie and the debt. Get there around 7pm with $5 in your hand to get The Lopez to Cleveland and Slimy Member to Brooklyn.

Tonight: Peelander-Z

Mohawk Place welcomes music (and anime) festival staple Peelander-Z to Buffalo tonight for a colorfully comical show. The NYC via Japan via outer space group formed in 1998, and have made an indelible mark on the music scene, mainly due to their live performances, which rely heavily on audience participation and sassy superhero-esque costumes. The group is color coded, and after Peelander-Blue left the group in 2008, Peelander-Green joined Yellow and Red on their quest to become the best Japanese action comic punk band in the game. They are joined by Pink (vocals), Purple (bass), and Black, who plays guitar and produces. Their bold anime-inspired costumes are just that, so don’t believe the band when they tell you that it’s their actual skin. Concertgoers may want to consider wearing workout clothes, as the group fully expects audience participation in various cardio-friendly activities, including bowling, limbo, and some ubiquitous cowbell-ringing.
