Cantelope Drops 2-Track for ours

Lo-fi Rochester act Cantelope, which features Doorway Talkers’ Hannah Weidner on drums, released a couple new tunes onto bandcamp earlier this week. The fuzzy for ours is a short, two song EP that joins a small but growing digital catalog from young trio. The EP’s lead track, “R’N’R P Hole,” is a solid cut of Yuck inspired jangle rock. The three-piece will kick off a five date fall tour on Saturday, October 3rd in Fulton, NY with Utica’s still buzzing Comfy. The short outing will take Cantelope from Central NY to a few gigs down south. In the mean time, check out “R’N’R P Hole” below. for ours by CANTELOPE

Genesee Live Premieres Latest Session feat. Hannah Weidner & the Doorway Talkers

If you didn’t make it to the first installment of our Rochester Invasion shows (yes there will be more), then you missed not one but two sets from the Doorway Talkers, the full band project from singer/songwriter Hannah Weidner, on Nietzsche’s front room stage. Backed by members of Secret Pizza and Passive Aggressives Anonymous, the Doorway Talkers gives Weidner to nice vehicle to flesh out the Joanna Newsom-esque folk numbers taken from her debut LP, Comfortable Existence, which we selected as our Album of the Week last fall. This morning, Hannah and crew were the latest act to be featured in Genesee Live‘s video sessions series. After a quiet summer, the series is back with a clip that captures the four piece delivering a pleasant, living room (and just a little kitchen) performance. Check out the full session below.

1809 Studios Premieres Latest Session feat. Hannah Weidner and the Doorway Talkers

We haven’t checked in with 1809 Sessions, the live video series from the Macedon, NY studio, for a few weeks, so it was very convenient timing (more on that below) to see that the studio’s latest session features Hannah Weidner and the Doorway Talkers. You may remember the Rochester singer/songwriter from back half of 2014 as we featured her  debut LP, Comfortable Existence, as our Album of the Week. Weidner later formed a backing band, featuring members of Secret Pizza and Passive Aggressives Anonymous, and filmed a session with Jon Lewis and Dave Drago at the studio, which just hit the interwebs this week. If you like what you see, then mark down July 25th on your calendar as Hannah Weidner and the Doorway Talkers, along with a cast of fellow Rochester acts, will invade Nietzsche’s as part of this year’s Infringement Festival. Full details on the event can be found here.[...]

Hannah Weidner – Comfortable Existence

Rochester is having a good September as far as buffaBLOG is concerned. Earlier this month we saw the release of Cottage Jefferson’s fantastic new album B-Side, which deservingly snagged the blog’s first Album of the Week spot of September. This week we have another Rochester artist grabbing the spot—meet singer/songwriter Hannah Weidner. The DIY songbird’s debut album, Comfortable Existence, is a harmony-rich acoustic beaut, drawing comparisons to earlier tracks of sister-songwriter duo First Aid Kit. Now, as aforementioned, Comfortable Existence is an acoustic album at its core, consisting primarily of folksy acoustic tracks with beautifully-crafted vocal harmonies. (Take the ‘love-is-in-the-air’ album-opener “Your Essence” for example.)  A more focused listen reveals a certain intricacy to the songs that adds serious depth to the album, making Hannah Weidner and her songcraft stand out among other folk contemporaries. The subtle inclusion of horns and air organ in a few of the songs adds[...]
