Mic Excel and L-Biz Team Up for “Clouds”

The smoothness on Mic Excel‘s latest release hits you from the moment you click the play button. After a four count, the EVC rapper jumps immediately into a melodic chorus of “da la das” that meld perfectly in with a creamy beat from the hands of TheProgrammer. Truth and awareness is the subject of the verses in the track, as Mic and  I.S.B. Music’s L-Biz talk up the importance of keeping your head out of the “Clouds.” Amid more thoughtful lyrics from Mic are some real great one-liners, particularly “I handle bars like a playground, you handle bars like a unicycle.” L-Biz’s standout featured verse draws off of experiences with women that try to break his invulnerable fidelity. “Clouds” is intelligent, catchy music from two talented Buffalo emcees. EVC’s Cove Releases New Track

Multifaceted producer Cove is always reliable for dope new material. His latest track, “It’s the jawn!!!,” is a high energy instrumental that keeps the head rocking. Stuttering organ synths and a distant voice encourage you to “Come on!” throughout the length of the song. Bringing forth feelings of inspiration and drive, it’s the most recent instrumental track of Cove’s to evoke emotion. A member of the ever-talented Essential Vitamins Crew, Cove is behind several standout tracks, and crafted the wonderfully moving album love.gained/love.lost.too., one of my favorite projects of the last year. “It’s the jawn!!!” is another notch in the talented belt of Cove, an artist that breeds consistency and intuition.

Cove Explores Humanity’s Strongest Emotion On love.gained/love.lost.too

The Essential Vitamins Crew (EVC) of Buffalo boasts “no additives or preservatives,” and that’s exactly what EVC member and hip hop producer Cove has testified to on his latest album love.gained/love.lost.too. The release is a follow up to Cove’s Love.Lost/Love.Gained. release of last February, and it follows a similar soundscape. Cove keeps the track name nearly as simple as possible. Most of the titles are just their number, with the exception of a few dates and the album’s closer. Track “two”begins with a quote from Love and Basketball, in which the main characters as children begin dating. Throughout the album Cove rips scenes depicting different stages of love from movies and uses them as interludes to further portray the album’s themes. “Apr.20” was hardly the pot-smokers anthem one would think considering it’s name. Cove chops up the same vocal sample we’ve heard on Black Hippy’s “Black Lip Bastard” remix, and combines[...]

Tonight: Beautiful/Decay

As visual art has always been an important component of live music performance, the creative possibilities of curating a collaborative, mutually informed showcase can often allow the unique tastes of the artists  to come together to realize a singular aesthetic statement. Hip hop and street culture has long been at the forefront of this avenue of performance, merging the ideas of local artists, filmmakers, DJs, MCs, and producers into a cohesive community event. Tonight, Allen Street Hardware will host “Beautiful/Decay,” presented by art collective ArmCandy. This interactive live event features the latest collection from visual artist Jessica Saddleson, as well as a release party for love.lost/love.gained.too, the newest instrumental tape from Essential Vitamins Crew-affiliated producer Cove. In addition, the event will include DJ sets from Josh Yourmoms and John Pal, along with a poetry reading from EVC artist Jay MF G. Professional photographer JK Media will also be on hand to shoot[...]
