Basement at the Studio at Waiting Room (9/09/16)

This past Friday, UK pop punk act Basement made their way back to Buffalo for an incredible show the Connecticut 4 piece Ovlov, and Brooklyn indie act Eskimeaux. This was Basement’s first time back in Buffalo since they played the old Sugar City, on their first ever US tour.  Buffalo showed them a great time, and every band that played was stellar.  Check out some shots from the night below, and click here for a full gallery. Tonight: Basement

You might want to get down to the Studio at Waiting room tonight.  UK pop punk / alt /emo act Basement is making their triumphant return to our fine city tonight, fresh off the release of a new record, titled Promise Everything.  On tour with Basement is New York indie act, Eskimeaux, and the recently reunited Ovlov. If you caught Eskimeaux at Sugar City last year, you should know that Eskimeaux alone is worth the price of a ticket.  This is a gig you’re not going to want to miss. Doors open for the show at 6:30pm, with a showtime of 7:30pm. Tickets are $19 at the door, which is a small price to pay for this stacked bill.

Tonight: Eskimeaux

Eskimeaux is conscientious music for the attentive listener. Started as a solo effort by Gabrielle Smith, the project has recently evolved into a four piece outfit on the road. There’s a real clarity to the heavily layered songs, and one that brings the whole collection to a much more poppy level. It’s less lo-fi bedroom rock, more crystal clear, heartfelt stuff that’s carefully constructed. I have a hard time imagining Eskimeaux playing anywhere else in[...]

Eskimeaux – O.K.

I remember a couple of years ago when I stumbled across a collection of demos from Eskimeaux on an “album” titled Igluenza. When Smith first started what would become Eskimeaux, she was making tracks which were much more avant garde in nature, featuring ambient, drone inspired, experimental electronics.  Out of these humble beginnings, Smith began to embrace more of a bedroom pop, glo-fi sound. After enlisting the help of members of the art collective, Epoch, including Felix Walworth of Told Slant, the project really seemed to find itself After seeing[...]
