Tonight: Steak & Cake Records Six-Year Anniversary

Has it really been six years of Steak & Cake?! S&C ringleader Brandon Schlia has been bringing us quality WNY music (122 releases to be exact) for exactly that long, and he’s celebrating his legacy (and his birthday) with a stacked showcase featuring some of S&C’s best and brightest. The lineup is as follows: 1.) Dildon’t 2.) The J.A.C. Trio 3.) Wren Williams & The Sons of Luther 4.) Yellow House 5.) Shane Meyer 6.) Sonny Baker band 7.) Slow Cooker 8.) MACE (DJ set) Doors are at 5pm and music starts at 6pm. Bring $5. The show is at Curly’s – ask a punk or a Steak & Cake alumni for the address.

Tonight: Palberta

If you’re looking for something to do this Monday night, Sugar City has you covered.  Brooklyn act, Palberta, will be rolling through Buffalo tonight, with some support from some great local acts.  Palberta is hot off some good press from Rolling Stone, and while I could attempt to explain their bizarre style of music, I think you’re just better off going to the show to see for yourself. Kicking off the show will be three local acts, Award Show, Slow Mutants, and dildoN’t.  Sugar City is a drug and alcohol free space located at 1239 Niagara Street.  The show is only six bucks and kicks off at 7pm.

This is what happened with Newish Star, playing tonight at the Glitterbox with a host of other bands. For those unfamiliar, Newish Star plays guitar driven music reminiscent of Jawbreaker and Archers of Loaf. The trio’s latest cassette, How Soon We Forget, was released this month. It is excellent. Hailing from New Paltz, Diet Cig also recently released an excellent cassette of earnest, guitar music featuring declamatory vocals. The group is currently on tour in support of the release, Overeasy. Over easy happens[...]
