Tonight: Beck

One of the summer’s most interesting outdoor amphitheater tours featuring some of indie rocks biggest bands rolls through WNY tonight when Darien Lake hosts Beck, Spoon, Cage The Elephant and Sunflower Bean.  At this point Beck and Spoon are straight up elder statesmen, with the legendary Angelino prepping his fourteenth… yes fourteenth album Hyperspace, while tasteful Austin TX indie stalwarts Spoon are back in the area after that now legendary 2015 Canalside show in support of their recently released their first best of album, appropriately titled Everything Hits At Once and 2018’s bright and shiny Colors. Bringing down the median age of the bill will be Bowling Green Kenturcky garage rock conceptualists Cage The Elephant, and breakout NYC glam rock darlings Sunflower Bean, whose sophomore album Twentytwo in Blue brought together sexy T-Rex riffs, Fleetwood Mac worthy melodies, and righteous Gen Z angst  to make one of the best and downright inspirational albums of 2018.[...]

Spring Fling Tour at First Niagara Center (03/28/16)

This past Monday, Buffalo was treated to arguably one of biggest indie tours of the year. The Spring Fling Tour packed the First Niagara Center, thanks to the four huge names on the tour.  Headlined by Cage the Elephant, the tour also brought along the up and comers, Bear Hands, alt-rock veterans Silversun Pickups, and the massive UK indie act Foals along for the ride.  All four bands were total crowd pleasers, the huge audience in attendance even brought the singers of two of the bands into the crowd for some face to face.  Check out some photos from the show below, and click here for a full gallery. Kerfuffle at Canalside (7/26/14)

This past Saturday, Buffalo’s infant radio station, Alternative Buffalo 107.7, debuted their inaugural Kerfuffle on a crowd of thousands down at Canalside in spectacular fashion. The one-day music festival had a lot going in its favor that day: nearly rain free weather (Artpark was shaking its head all night), a bill of fresh and relevant acts (something that normally does not go hand in hand with summer music here in the city), and a revitalized waterfront that continues to provide the perfect back drop to many summer nights in Buffalo. Now, for a full review of Kerfuffle, read Ryan Wolf’s review here, but if you prefer a more visual recap, contributing photographer Andy Deluca was on hand capture all of the action and energy on Kerfuffle’s stage. Kerfuffle at Canalside (7/26/14)

Considering that Alternative Buffalo 107.7 is only nine months old, it’s a bit of a miracle that their inaugural one day festival was as much a success as it was. After gestating for three full trimesters, the fledgling radio station has given birth to something that should, realistically, become a part of Buffalo tradition. The day’s execution had its flaws: the beer tents periodically ran out of water at an event where no outside water bottles were allowed and it was not made clear that the food trucks wouldn’t accept Canalside food/beverage tickets. But overall, given 107.7’s youth and that it was a virgin voyage for the station, the experience offered was incredible. Not only did the rain mostly stay away in spite of weather reports to the contrary, the acts themselves were sharp, lively, and remarkably well-connected to the crowd of ten thousand. After showcasing the ecstatic old-timey ramble[...]
