Tonight: Bad Bad Hats

Catch indie rock group Bad Bad Hats tonight at the 9th Ward at Babeville.   From Minneapolis, Minnesota, Bad Bad Hats formed in 2012 when Kerry Alexander, Chris Hoge, and Noah Boswell attended Macalester College.  Shortly after, the trio signed to Afternoon Records through which they’ve released some singles and 2 LPs: Psychic Reader (2015), and Lightning Round (2018). Lightning Round is significant to Bad Bad Hats in numerous ways.  Notably, this recent release was recorded live in studio, differing from Psychic Reader.  Producer and collaborator Brett Bullion encouraged this.  As a result, Lightning Round demonstrates a musicality that now compares more so to Kerry Alexander’s lyricism.  Second, Connor Davison was invited to play drums on the LP, then invited to become a permanent member.  Unfortunately, the announcement of a new member is bittersweet.  Lightning Round is the last album to which bassist Noah Boswell will contribute.  He’s decided to further his education and pursue a master’s degree.[...]

Tonight: Bad Bad Hats

9th Ward at Babeville has an excellent excuse for local indie rock fans to get out of the house on a Sunday night when they host Bad Bad Hats and blog favorites Honey Coma. Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, land of Prince Rogers Nelson, Husker Du, and The Replacements, Bad Bad Hats rock an earnest and classic indie sound that’s soulfully honest and catchy as hell, propelled by the wise, crystalline power of frontwoman/guitarist Kerry Alexander and the tight rhythm section of Chris Hoge and Noah Boswell. Lovely local slowcore sad rockers Honey Coma open the show with their life enhancing beautiful melancholy, and all this sweetness can be yours for $12 at the door, which opens at 7pm.

The Front Bottoms at Buffalo RiverWorks (10/22/17)

This past Sunday, The Front Bottoms returned to Buffalo, this time playing an insane set at Buffalo RiverWorks. The New Jersey based indie / pop punk act played Buffalo last year at the Town Ballroom, and since then, dropped a new LP on Fueled By Ramen, titled Going Grey.  While the record had only been out for three or four days by the time of the show, the band’s dedicated fans somehow seemed to know every word to every song. They played an insane 21 song set featuring songs from all four of their major label records, and neither the crowd nor the band took a break during the set, making it an unforgettable night. Check out some photos from their crazy set below, along with shots of both openers Bad Bad Hats and Basement, shot by blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor.
