Typhoon – “Darker”

Oregon-based indie rock band Typhoon has released “Darker,” the second single off their fast-approaching new concept album Offerings, planned to be out via Roll Call Records on January 12. The track slowly pulsates along before a startling crash floods in a psychedelic instrumental melody. Vulnerable vocals and traces of orchestration outline this rocking and catchy song of anguish, exhibiting the memory crisis hindering the central character of the album’s proposed story arc. Listen below:

Typhoon – “Rorschach”

Typhoon is an octet (!) from Portland, OR whose latest single has us in somewhat of a tizzy. “Rorschach” is a great starter point for the group’s unique post-pop approach, acting a single which is actually a snippet of a greater movement (titled Floodplains) that the band released back in October. The full album, titled Offerings, will be out in October… Until then, start digesting the intricate guitar work, intimate vocal delivery, and left-field instrumentation that “Rorschach” has to offer. Fans of Manchester Orchestra, Dear and the Headlights, or Floodplains is currently on Spotify, be sure to add “Rorschach” to your playlist.

Kyle Morton – “Survivalist Fantasy”

Typhoon frontman Kyle Morton is releasing a solo album called What Will Destroy You. He specializes in folksy acoustic jams with a tinge of Local Natives-style indie rock tossed in. We were particularly taken aback by a percussion-filled break in the otherwise stripped-down track. Fans of Bon Iver or Elliot Smith would dig Kyle’s style.
