Tonight: Different Strokes

Buffalo’s preeminent (and only) Strokes tribute band Different Strokes is back tonight headlining a top notch show at DBGB’s also featuring The Eaves, The Good Neighbors, and indie dance jams all night courtesy of the Dance Yrself Clean crew. An all-star squad featuring Tom (Humble Braggers, DYC) Burtless, Ben (DYC) Parsons, John (Girl Jeans) Grace, Ryan (The Slums) Schilia, and Griff (Feverbox) Smith, the wonderful, cheeky sausages of Different Strokes get the objects of their collective obsession right: kicking the early aughts downtown rock jams with tight riffs,  danceable grooves, some swagger, and the don’t give a fudge insouciance one expects from Casablancas and crew. Indie bar band from heaven The Eaves (you know, the fellows formerly known as Sixties Future) and garage rocker newbies The Good Neighbors will be warming you up, with Dance Yrself Clean keeping you on your feet all night. Doors open at 9pm and cover is $5.

Tonight: The Ambulanters

Brit alternative band from Nebraska The Ambulanters drop by Milkie’s tonight to coincidentally play the release party for local psych/surf rockers Passed Out’s latest EP with David Dondero, Bold Folly, The Good Neighbors, and Passed Out, obviously. The fellas in Passed Out are back with the Aforementioned and How it Pertains to Absolutely Nothing, produced by Deadwolf’s Cody Morse and mixed by Elliot (M.A.G.S., KIN) Douglass, and lead single “Bukowski & Brautigan” is a literate and crunchy hit and run jam that you really ought to listen to right now. Please note The Ambulanters are not British in any way, but their sound is straight up British alternative, heavy on Joy Division and The Smiths, which is mighty tasty filtered through the band’s unassuming Midwestern lens.  Also hailing from the Midwest, Minneapolis songwriter David Dondero is in town in support of his latest album Inside The Cat’s Eye, while additional local support will[...]

Tonight: Wildhoney

After multiple nights of awesome shows over the past week or so, Mohawk Place continues it’s streak with a show from Baltimore’s Wildhoney.  The dream pop tinged shoegaze act has not put out any new music for quite some time, but what they have in their catalog so far is stellar.  Their last LP, Your Face Sideways, came out on Topshelf records in 2015, and is filled with catchy hooks and dreamy undertones from front to back.  As heard in their Audiotree session, I’m sure the band’s massive sound will translate fantastic in a live setting. Buffalo’s own honey and the Good Neighbors will open the show, alongside Albany’s Cannon the Brave.  Tickets are available at the door for $10, and doors are set to open at 8.
