Tonight: Kal Marks

The fourth stop in their fall tour, touring Bostonites Kal Marks play the Tudor Lounge tonight! Having humble beginnings as a solo project, the indie rock trio have released three full-length albums through Exploding in Sound Records. Typically described as “the loudest band in Boston,” Kal Marks decided to switch things up for their latest release Universal Care, reigning in their volume and lightening the tone on a few tracks. Universal Care has influences in Nirvana and sludge rock, as well as the sounds we hear coming from more modern indie rock bands, namely Pile. The latest LP has been nominated for the “Album of the Year” award for the 2018 Boston Music Awards. Kal Marks is also a nominee for “Rock Artist of the Year.” Local artists Bold Folly and Soul Butchers are joining tonight’s show. Doors are at 9pm with music beginning shortly after. $5 at the door.[...]

Tonight: Fat Tuesday

Mardi Gras is now more or less a thing up here in Buffalo so you might as well celebrate it properly tonight at Mohawk with the return of their Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Party. Featuring the artfully ramshackle Americana band Pine Fever, heavy duty psych rockers Deadwolf, the rockabilly punk sensibilities of Soul Butchers, The Buffalo Brass Machine cranking New Orleans brass, A. Dreamer Solutions, and Mr. Conrad playing piano in between sets all night long, there’s also going to be a New Orleans buffet, NOLA drink specials, beads… and it can all be yours for $10, or $5 after the food runs out. Doors open at 6pm.

Tonight: Project Grant Fundraiser

Rock on for a good cause tonight at Buffalo Iron Works as a cast of locals and non take the stage in support of the Project Grant Fundraiser. The West Side launched program is aimed to work with artists and communities who may be lacking in the proper resources for a given artistic medium and project. Further info on Project Grant and the program’s founder, Tina Dillman, can be found here. On hand for musical support this evening are Utica desert rockers Twin Speak (in town for an Infringement date), retro punk rockers Soul Butchers, lyrically sound slackers Difficult Night, audio/visual master Projex, and many more. The fundraiser’s full lineup can be found at here. Speaking of Difficult Night, the quartet just dropped its latest new track “Calamity” this morning. Tonight: Scajaquada Creeps

Tonight Nietzsche’s is going to be hella crazy all night long thanks to the Scajaquada Creeps and friends’ PJ Party (“all of the fun of a sleep over without the sleep”). The Creeps have rounded up a murderers row (without the murderers) of freaks for you to party and get naughty with into the wee hours, including Queen City Music Lottery spawn BEASTCOAST, local hip gurus Little Cake & Jack Toft, Soul Butchers, and DJ/Master of Ceremonies Pat Kewley. Remember this is a pj party, so it’d be downright crass to not show up in your finest pajamas, so you’ve been warned. Tonight: Alpha Hopper, Orations, & Soul Butchers

As we all know, January is seemingly endless string of cold, dark days, the never melting coating of snow a reminder of our own growing despondency and claustrophobia. Shame it only comes but once a year. To help celebrate the coming end of this month, Mohawk Place has a pretty solid bill of local bands beginning at 8pm for only $5 later on tonight. Starting things off will be Alpha Hopper, a band quickly building momentum for their debut LP, set to be released this Summer. Abrasive garage rock anchored by amazing vocals, this is definitely a band to watch. From there we move on to the brooding post punk of Orations. Whose ep from last year was a definite highlight. Fans of Joy Division, Bauhaus, and early Cure do not want to miss this performance. Finally, rounding things out is the frantic and wholly entertaining punk of Soul Butchers. So really,[...]

Tonight: Soul Butchers

It’s going to get hella weird tonight at Nietzsche’s when some of Buffalo’s (and beyond) more out there bands – Soul Butchers, Bike Cops, and Supergoner – unleash some high octane pre Halloween wildness. There’s something delightfully skeevy, dangerous, and wrong about Soul Butchers, whose 18 Wheeler EP makes for excellent reckless driving music, while Chicago  thrashers, Bike Cops, and 90’s rockers, Supergoner, will round things out with more music from the wrong side of the tracks. Doors open at 9pm and expect a modest cover.

Soul Butchers have recently made a blip on our radar with their debut 7 deep EP/short album 18 Wheeler (produced by Mr. Skimask). The album starts off with a retro-punk flavor similar to that of locals Irving Klaws or Wolf Tickets, but the real magic creeps out on the third track, titled “See Me Again,” where the band distances itself from the rowdy Stooges-like intensity. “See Me Again,” sounds like a mix between a lighter Les Savy Fav meshed with more cathartic Dismemberment Plan. Comprised of past members of 90’s hardcore/punk band, Black Tar, and more recently Delores, and Trailerpark Tornados, Soul Butchers’ next show will be at Spiral Scratch’s Record Store Day showcase on 4/19.
