Must See Shows (11.13.24-11.19.24)

Wednesday, November 13th @ 7:30pm Say Anything @ RiverWorks Mid-aughts pop-punk royals Say Anything are in town mid-week to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough album Is a Real Boy on Wednesday. Is a Real Boy holds a place in the heart of many millennials, as the album was almost anthemic with themes of defying the norm and embracing oneself. The band will be playing the album in its entirety, which will surely be accompanied by a chorus of hundreds of die hard fans. Hopefully, the band has time for their latest album …Is Committed, as it is a promising evolution on the band’s signature edgy delivery. Angel Du$t and Social Animals will be sharing the bill, so get there early as you won’t want to miss this. Tickets are $46.28. Say Anything – “ON CUM”

I had heard that Say Anything was still around and rockin’ out, but this is my first opportunity to hear something brand spankin’ new since Is a Real Boy… (goodness, I feel old). Without too much knowledge of everything in between, this sounds like a return to form for Say Anything, and that’s certainly a good thing. We’ve all been through a lot since 2005 and “ON CUM” (LOL) reflects that. Speaking to “ON CUM” (lol) Max Bemis’ had this to say: “ON CUM” is an ode to the sanctity of having a second song on any uppity record that at least attempts to truly ‘knock.’ The ‘chopping steak’ beat being included is the evidence we weren’t content to only half-knock when ‘Monkey Wrench’ still exists.” The combination of Bemis’ voice cutting through the procession of guitars (so many guitars) and that trademark sass really brought me back, and will[...]

Bayside at the Town Ballroom (5/10/17)

Last week, a very sold out Town Ballroom was completely packed for NYC emo/punk act Bayside. It was packed for a good reason though, as Bayside, who are still on tour for their new 2016 LP, titled Vacancy, brought along the timeless Say Anything for the ride, along with Buffalo based legacy act Reggie and the Full Effect. With Reggie and the Full Effect having all four members of local pop punk act Pentimento as a backing band, it only makes sense that they surprise the crowd and played a song as well. All three bands played their classics as well as the deep cuts, and it still felt like the crowd knew every word to all of the songs. Check out some photos from the amazing show below, shot by blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor. Reggie and the Full Effect Pentimento Say Anything Bayside
