Tonight: Day Camp

Cincinnati-based indie rock quartet, Day Camp, will be making a stop in Buffalo tonight with support from local trio, Boy Scouts. With a tape release right around the corner (February 13th to be exact) via Rochester-based tape label, Dadstache Records, Day Camp has been making the rounds throughout upstate NY. Obvious comparisons for the band are The Get Up Kids, Tugboat Annie, and Mineral. Comfy was supposed to be on this gig but have since been removed. Don’t worry, I have a feeling we will be hearing from them fairly soon. Tonight’s show is at Northrup. That’s probably all you need to know.

Tonight: Mitski

Hump day is upon us. And if you’re sitting at home thinking to yourself “I wish my hump day wasn’t such a drag…”, then read on, my friend. Brooklyn-based indie songstress Mitski will be performing at Northrup House tonight in support of her marvelous new record bury me at make out creek. There is a pleasing duality to the new record, sometimes folk-tinged and smooth like an early Jenny Lewis, other times angular and challenging like some of St. Vincent’s newer material. Mitski’s songs are equal parts beautiful, wounded, and weird, but her lyrical prowess is what drives it all home. bury me at make out creek is a buzz machine, so this may be one of the last opportunities to watch her play in such an intimate setting. Also on the bill for tonight: Portland’s psych-folker Johanna Warren, blog favorite Alex Berkley, Cobalt Blue, and Lawyer Sam. There is a $5[...]

Tonight: Couples Counseling

Cap off another busy weekend here in Buffalo with a trip down to the Heights as Boston’s Couples Counseling makes a stop at the Northrup House. CC, aka Virginia de las Pozas, sounds like Emily Haines (Metric, Broken Social Scene) or Amy Millan (Stars, Broken Social Scene) locking themselves in their bedrooms with only their MacBook and journal as dreamy, looped vocals mixed with blippy nostalgia make up de las Pozas’ debut cassette. Joining Couples Counseling this evening will be fellow Mass electro=pop artist PARI∀H, along with blog fav Copy Manager. Music kicks off around 8pm. As with all house shows, ask around for the address. Shouldn’t be too difficult. Make sure to have $5 on you too to cover the touring acts.
