JW Francis – “Orbit”

A perennial Buffablog favorite (here and here), NYC based JW Francis brings us his latest with “Orbit.” Falling firmly into the bedroom pop subgenre (and a love song to boot), swimmy synth and squiggly guitar blend together with Francis’ vocals for a non-stop party in the vein of Vampire Weekend and Mac Demarco. Speaking to the track, Francis had this to say: “I wrote Orbit after falling in love with my partner Milla. I was awe-struck, dumb founded, blinded by the light, however you want to call it. I could not believe my luck, and I wanted to write a song about it. I wanted the song to race fast like a heartbeat, and to get up in your face like feelings.” You can hear “Orbit” on Spotify, Soundcloud, or Bandcamp. JW Francis – “Sweet As A Rose”

We just can’t get enough of bedroom popper JW Francis – his patented blend of warbly indie rock and lo-fi bedroom warmth is second to none. We’ve previously featured his songs before (“I Love You;” “Good Time;” and “John, Take Me With You,” just to name a few), but this time around we’re featuring “Sweet As A Rose.” “Rose” is a bubbling gallop of a song, simmering and bouncing along while JW mumble sings his way through the song. Stabs of warped guitar catch your ear as much as Francis’ uber-pleasant vocal presence does – no wonder we keep featuring his tunes. Check it out via YouTube below – you can also find his entire discography on Spotify.

JW Francis – “John, Take Me With You”

If you’re an avid reader of buffaBLOG, you know we stan JW Francis… From his Christmastime covers to his hooky bedroom-pop singles, there’s just something about Francis’ warbly sound that gets us going… We’re happy to share another amazing tune called “John, Take Me With You” – you’ll find all the hallmarks of a JW banger here… Sun-melted warbling, a driving beat, and Francis’ omni-pleasant vocals. Check out the extremely colorful video for “John” below. You can find all his stuff on Bandcamp, Spotify, or Soundcloud.

JW Francis – “I Love You”

JW Francis is no stranger to buffaBLOG – we’ve already covered “Lofi,” “Good Time,” and his super unique take on the McCartney classic, “Wonderful Christmastime.” He’s back AGAIN with another banger called “I Love You,” a super-simple and ruthlessly catchy tune about “loving someone, but also having to leave.” Francis fills the song with spiraling guitars, jumpy basslines, and retro synth splashes, all wrapped up in his trademark warm, warbly bedroom-mix. JW Francis – “Wonderful Christmastime”

So… Is this song about witchcraft or what? Paul McCartney & Wings wrote a love-it-or-hate-it classic with “Wonderful Christmastime;” we think JW Francis‘ bedroom-pop take makes it feel like a bit less of a guilty pleasure. Full of jaunty guitar stabs, smarmy vocals, and a surprising amount of horns, Francis’ version of “Christmastime” feels a lot less late-70s and a lot more 2020. Looks like their crew had a lot of fun making the music video – check it out below or swing by Bandcamp to peep the whole Christmas EP.

JW Francis – “Good Time”

BuffaBLOG mainstay JW Francis is at it again, this time with his latest jam, “Good Time.” The Oklahoma-born, Paris-raised, NYC-based singer/songwriter specializes in delightfully warbly bedroom pop with a warped-vinyl aesthetic. “Good Time” is another gem in his repertoire, full of AM-radio guitar twinkles, gauzy synths, and a sun-soaked mentality disguising the bit of melancholy that colors his lyrics. Check out the QVC-meets-acid-trip music video below for a taste of your own, and be sure to swing by Bandcamp if you dig it.

JW Francis – “Lofi”

Something about the mix of “Lofi” really rubbed us the right way… It’s a warm and warbly indie pop jam from NYC-based mastermind JW Francis. Pairing jangly guitars with tape-aged bursts of vocals, this one is a lighthearted blast of bedroom pop goodness from an otherwise unforgiving city. Be forewarned – the opening riff is enough to hook you right in. Check it out below or snag it from Bandcamp.
