DYAN – “Acoustic Midwest”

DYAN wraps up her album cycle with the lovely, heartstring-pulling “Acoustic Midwest.” A bare bones arrangement that highlights film composer Alexis Dyan Marsh’s vulnerable-but-stunning vocals atop beautifully strummed acoustic guitar, “Acoustic Midwest” is one of those songs that truly lets itself do the heavy lifting. Lyrics about protecting your child and vague Midwestern imagery give a strong sense of nostalgia that, like DYAN explains, “bring out the tender defiance of leaving.” Throw this one on during your next early winter morning while you sip your coffee.   Check out “Acoustic Midwest” via the YouTube embed below, or, add it to your Spotify or Apple Music playlists.

DYAN – “What Fiction Is For”

Indie pop trio DYAN hits hard with the first release since last summer’s debut album with single “What Fiction Is For.” The song is a buoyant cocoon of synth, reverberating vocals, and cushy drum hits, later adding a bit of an edge with cutting, distorted guitar lines. It covers a unique combination of light and dark, heavy and soft, sweet and bitter. There’s a real sense of natural down-to-earth instrumentation, paired well with hints of electronica. DYAN – “St. James”

DYAN is the moniker for songstress Alexis Marsh. Her new song “St. James” is a ghostly pop number highlighting driving electronic drums and Marsh’s soulful voice. About the song, Marsh says, “I wanted a sparse sound to reflect the openness of the prairies where I grew up… The landscape seemed to draw horizon-long lines of expectation into the future, which I didn’t realize I resented until I couldn’t find satisfaction in success despite my ambition.” Anyone who has ever wanted to escape the sentiments of small-town life might find “St. James” eerily relatable. DYAN’s full length, Looking For Knives, will be out July 29th. Until then, “St. James” will have to suffice. Have a look below.
