Tonight: Pam Swarts, Fashion Expo 1990, and many more

In what is probably the largest non-festival local bill so far this year, Mohawk Place will play host to a deliciously wide spectrum of musical talent tonight. Beginning at 8pm, with no definitive headliner, tonight’s performances are to include the eclectic klezmer vibes of Ahavaraba, the powerful acoustic songwriting of Lara Buckley, Different Planets’ electronoise lounge beats, Rochester’s Makeshift Letterbox and their thick and eerie post rock, abrasive feminist punkers Jamie and the Debt, Pam Swarts’ beautifully layered art rock expeditions, Buffalo’s favorite saucy alt rap duo Jack Topht and Little Cake, and finally electro/house duo Fashion Expo 1990, who will be closing out the night at 11:30. *Inhales deeply* Mohawk Place will be divided into two separate stages for the monster of a bill, with live music being played endlessly from 8pm until after midnight. Tonight: Overhand Sam

Tonight Allentown will be treated to a pretty eclectic mix at Dreamland (387 Franklin St. Set to perform is Rochester-based OHS (Overhand Sam), aka Sam Snyder who might look familiar from his other gig in Maybird. OHS’sound is full-bodied, sounding like a mix between a Jack White project and college radio hit. Also on the bill is fairly new to our radar, Different Planets, which sounds like if Casiotone for the Painfully Alone took hallucinogens accidentally after his wife left him and subbed in  an industrial band.  Certainly not to be left out is Iowa’s best atmospheric rock troubadour, Bob Bucko Jr. and sludgy weirdo outfit, Pappy Stardust and & the Eclectic Moon Sandwich. Doors are at 7pm with kickoff at 8pm. $5 donation goes to Bob Bucko Jr., because he traveled 13 hours to get to Buffalo. Trust me, that drive sucks. I’ve done it way too many times.
