Caleb L’Etoile – “Gun”

Caleb L’Etoile brings us his latest with the incredibly relevant “Gun.” I won’t get super political, but I’m sure you’ll be able to guess which way Caleb leans within five seconds of watching his music video below. It starts off feeling like a folksy/sea shanty track but shifts the vibe and turns things up to 11. Caleb suggests that the performance below is critical to the overall reception of the track – luckily, we’re fans of the whole package, and have embedded for your convenience.   “Gun” is available streaming via Spotify or below with his Tiny Desk Performance submission. If you want to know more, he did also throw up his musings on Substack. I’m sure my editor takes this out (editor’s note – he didn’t), but the shit happening in Minnesota and around the country isn’t normal and you should vote and support local artists. Caleb L’Etoile – “Fireball”

“Fireball” can mean a lot of things. It’s the go-to sorcery spell in D&D for mass destruction, the go-to alcoholic beverage for lovers of cinnamon destruction, and the latest track from Caleb L’Etoile. Written as a tip of the cap and a tongue of the cheek to the sock hop anthems of yesteryear, it is impossibly catchy and if you still have your shoes on and aren’t boppin’ along – please get your ears checked.   My mother always spoke fondly of sock hops and desperately wanted to us to relive that dream for her – whether her own idealized version of what they were or from actual experience, I’ll never know (I was like 8). I’ll probably just ask her tomorrow, but in the meantime, you can live Babs’ fever dream of sock hoppin’ in the safety of your own living room right now.   You can hear “Fireball”[...]

Caleb L’Etoile – “Tick (feat. Jessy Leigh)”

Fresh off of the I’m Always HauntedĀ EP, “Tick” is the latest from Caleb L’Etoile and it’s here just in time for spooky season! Using everyone’s favorite insect arachnid (the tick, who knew?) the song becomes an extended metaphor for obsessive love but stops short of mentioning Lyme disease by name (thank you). The track itself features dueling vocals between L’Etoile and Jessy Leigh and a cavalcade of chillwave-ish sounds and effects which create a fun juxtaposition with the gross subject matter. Also, mad props to Jessy Leigh’s Twtter background (it’s from Junji Ito’s Uzumaki). You can hear “Tick” below from YouTube or add it to your spoopy season mix on Spotify or Soundcloud (or main playlist if you’re spooky all the time). The rest of the EP is available now as well, so be sure to check out the rest -including a couple punk covers!
