Nancy Whitaker (a five-piece band, not an individual) create expansive post-rock compositions informed by 2000’s garage rock influences – their latest offering, “Mantelpiece” is the perfect amalgamation of the two. With jittery percussion, massive walls of guitar noise, and a soaring vocal presence, “Mantelpiece” transcends any pigeonholed genre and becomes something that much greater. Fans of The Walkmen; Black Country, New Road; and The Districts will find lots to love here in NW’s expansive sound.
