Massachusetts metalcore titans Converge brought their musical devastation to Waiting Room on July 31st, marking an end to their five-year absence from Western New York. Like a unstoppable force of nature wreaking havoc in its path, time and advancing age have not dulled the intensity and complexity of Converge’s highly-experimental hardcore. From Kurt Ballou’s adroit riffage to Nate Newton and Ben Koller’s impenetrable rhythms, and frontman Jacob Bannon’s inhuman shrieks, Converge’s music remains a hallmark of extreme sounds and extreme emotions. Joining the band that evening were Belgian post-metal band Amenra, whose monolithic maelstrom conjured visions of violence and darkness.

Tonight: Speakerfire

It’s hard to believe that it’s been eight long years since Speakerfire last graced a stage in Buffalo, NY. Their distinct brand of alternative rock is stuffed full of pitch-shifted guitar noise and late-aughts emo sentiment, which made them a mainstay in the Buffalo music scene a decade ago. With support from fellow Buffalo rockers The Traditional and The Soft Love, they’ll be reliving the glory days tonight with a straight-up reunion set at the Waiting Room.

Tickets for tonight’s show are $10 presale, $12 at the door. Doors are at 8pm, music starts at 9pm… It’s gonna get loud, so bring earplugs or prepare yourself for some well-deserved tinnitus.

Iron Chic are an indie/pop-punk band from Long Island and tonight they will be bringing the house down at the Studio at Waiting Room. Iron Chic are known for their anthem like quality full of pounding rhythm and fast paced, slicing guitars. Playing alongside Iron Chic on this stacked bill are Unwelcome Guests and Del Paxton, with their recently released LP, All Day, Every Day, All Night. Tunes start at 7pm. $15 at the door.

Buffalo’s own rock ‘n’ roll rebels Made Violent played a blistering hometown show at the Studio at Waiting Room on May 5th, whipping the crowd into a fierce frenzy. With a seven-inch single soon to be released and a new album fully recorded, Made Violent are making moves, expanding their international reach to an even wider audience hungry for pure, uncut rock. Joining the fray that evening were Rustbelt roots-rockers Sixties Future, preparing a full length of their own, and indie punks Ugly Sun, who recently finished an EP. Check out the photos below!

House Of Pain are one of those 90’s exuberances that’s simultaneously regrettable and irresistible, especially during Buffalo’s internationally renowned extended St. Patrick’s Day bacchanal, which reaches it’s apex today with the parade down Delaware Avenue, and House Of Pain at the Waiting Room. Giddyup fam, Everlast, Danny Boy and DJ Lethal will be presiding over an epic blow out in the Waiting Room’s parking lot featuring St. Patrick’s Day mayhem, 90’s covers from blog favorite Soul Patch, Slaine from La Coka Nostra, and DJ sets from Dovey and Rick Jameson. Tickets for this once in a lifetime Buffalo rager are still available for $15 general admission and $40 for VIP tickets. Rick Jameson starts it off at 12pm and House Of Pain caps it all off after the parade conclude’s at 4:30pm.

Tonight Wu-Tang original GZA aka The Genius will be breaking it down at The Waiting Room with special guests Mayhem Lauren and Short Moscato. A true legend, GZA is the realest of real deals whether it’s with the Wu-Tang, unleashing Liquid Swords, being strong on STEM research and opportunities for students of color or using his rhymes to decode the universe on the long awaited Dark Matter, possibly out later this year. Joining him will be Queens MC, Viceland star, sensualist and bon vivant Mayhem Lauren and Buffalo’s own Short Moscato, who dropped the first single of his upcoming debut earlier this week.

Get your dancing shoes cleaned and ready because dancing is mandatory when STRFKR comes to town, and they’re landing tonight here at The Waiting Room with Psychic Twin. The Portland, Oregon psychedelic dance funk outfit are known for irresistible grooves and their hyperactive, apocalyptic dance party live shows, are right on time and in town promoting their fifth album since 2008, last fall’s excellent Being No One, Going Nowhere. There will be dancing, confetti, rubber inflatables, and the kind of liberating freedom the human soul needs happening tonight at the Waiting Room. Opening the show will be emotionally charged but ethereal Brooklyn electronica duo Psychic Twin. Tickets are $20 and doors are at 7pm.

Brooklyn shoegazers Psychic Twin will be getting tonight’s STRFKR show at the Waiting Room started perfectly with their ethereal yet emotionally charged electronica, and to miss them frankly, is to play yourself out. Psychic Twin is the brainchild of daughter of the midwest Erin Fein, who decamped in Brooklyn to pursue her art, and after being joined by Rosana Caban on percussion, would culminate in the release last year of debut album Strange Diary on Polyvinyl Records, and this tour with STRFKR. Fans of Cocteau Twins and people who want to groove hard while looking inwards won’t want to miss Psychic Twin. You can check out their Bandcamp page here. Tonight: RiFF RAFF

Houston rapper RiFF RAFF quickly established himself as one of the genre’s most outlandish personalities upon debuting with his Birth Of An Icon mixtape on Mad Decent label back in 2011. The notoriously collaborative artist has worked with an eclectic mix of names including Danny Brown, Diplo, Gucci Mane, Action Bronson, Childish Gambino, and Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors. With two studio albums to date, 2014’s Neon Icon and last year’s Peach Panther, the emcee is set to release his latest effort Aquaberry Aquarius on January 29th. Tonight RiFF RAFF will perform at The Waiting Room with support from Pittsburgh rapper Owey, DollaBillGates, Peter Jackson, DJ Afterthought, Pirate Gang, and Jess Classic. Doors open at 6pm and tickets are $20.

Touche Amore at the Waiting Room (10/17/16)

Have you ever went to a show and been so blown away by an opener that the rest of the show just feels like a blur? The band that kicked this show off, Culture Abuse, did just that. One of the most rocking bands I have seen in a VERY long time. They’re super hard to describe, but damn, you just gotta give them a listen. Fear not though, Tiny Moving Parts and Touche Amore both still totally killed it. For Touche Amore’s first show back in Buffalo in two or three years, what seems like every die hard TA fan in Buffalo took to the front of the stage for a set full of scream-alongs and crowd surfing.
