Motherhouse Drops Early Demo

Things have been a little quiet with new music lately as Buffalo paces through summer’s humid dog days, but last night, an intriguing new project hit bandcamp. Motherhouse, a collaborative duo featuring current and past members of acts like the Mordant Sisters, the Actors, and Cross Stitch, dropped a 3-track demo dubbed Sessions during Wednesday’s waning hours. The early material from the band is a haunting, yet soothing collection of ambient no-wave that should appeal to fans of Orenda Fink or Buffalo’s Space Cubs.

The pair promises that more music will soon come, so enjoy this appetizer and keep an eye out for additional material in the near future.

Tonight: Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band

If you’re looking for a solid mid-weeknight blast of brilliant psychedelic rock, you’re definitely reading the right preview. Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band will be bringing their eclectic and sonically diverse set of classic rock-tinged psychedelia to Mohawk Place tonight in support of their recently-released debut studio effort, Intensity Ghost. Their compositions draw comparisons to some pretty iconic artists including the likes of Television and the Grateful Dead.

Experimental guitar duo The Actors, comprising of Nick Gordon and Eric Kendall, will be opening the show. The pair was last seen at Buffalo Iron Works during the Tins EP release show for Young Blame, and is a beyond worthy act to open the show up.

Music kicks off tonight at 8pm. Cover is $6.

The Tins Album Release Show at Buffalo Iron Works (7/11/14)

The beer, poutine, and local bands were on point at Buffalo Iron Works this past Friday night. A ticket got you a free copy of the Tins’ new EP, Young Blame, in addition to a view of the baseball game’s fireworks from the back patio. Energetic frontman Matthew Lippman of Brimstone Blondes revealed upcoming LP release plans as the four-piece kicked the evening off. Guitar pedal eccentric duo Eric Kendall and Nick Gordon of the Actors played two sets in between openers, while Airctaft lead singer Justin John Smithhad not one, but three mics attached to his stand to optimize sound quality. As for the Tins’ performance, their hyper fans bopped along to the new songs all night long. Check out our gallery below of the entire evening.

Tonight: The Tins Album Release Show

It wasn’t too long ago that The Tins had been so quiet for so long that they merited a “What Are They Up To?” post just a few months ago that ended with a strangely in-depth description of ice cream. In the last month, they’ve been all over the place: a new music video, a tour announcement, some decent press and now this album release show. Tonight at Iron Works, they’ll be teaming up with Aircraft, Brimstone Blondes and the quote-unquote “mysterious” duo that is The Actors.

The Tins, if you believe fellow buffaBLOGGER Mike Torsell (and I have to, because I moved here at the end of last year) took the city by storm in 2012, and this album release show may be their first step toward taking over the country. They’ll be on the road for just under a month, starting in Buffalo and making their way all the way to the West Coast. The Tins new EP, Young Blame, is shaping up to be a poppy, catchy thing, probably worth picking up if you like feeling good.

Aircraft you probably know: psychedelic surf-rock for catchy kiddos. Brimstone Blondes, too, play some catchy alt-pop, and if you know nothing else about them, you probably know that they’re younger than you. The Actors are an unknown quantity, but probably good: they’re Nick Gordon and Eric Kendall, whose last collaboration (as far as I know) was a somber little ditty about Grovey Cleves.
