Ian McCuen @ 1pm

444 Forest Avenue

If you wanted to minimize your steps for the day, I would suggest bringing a lawn chair to 444 Forest Avenue and not leaving, as the lineup has some true talent from the emerging local scene. Starting the indie lineup is Ian McCuen, a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalists who has somber and gripping songs that are reminiscent of Bright Eyes or Sufjan Stevens.

As the Oceans Rise and the Empire Falls by Ian McCuen

Kriggy @ 3pm

390 Richmond Ave

New kids on the block Kriggy aim to prove what the buzz is all about on Richmond Ave mid-afternoon. The band has an angular, math-y messiness that is appealing and no-frills in the most charming way possible.

Sonny Baker Trio @ 3:30pm

1110 Elmwood Ave.

Buffalo music scene mainstay Sonny Baker teams up with his frequent collaborators for a rare trio performance outside of Mr. Goodbar. You’ve likely scene Baker in his numerous iterations throughout the years, including Lazlo Hollyfeld, Wooden Waves, Talking Deadheads, and even A Hotel Nourishing. Expect Sonny’s solo project to have comparisons to Pavement, Broken Social Scene, and/or Dinosaur Jr.

steady hands, dead tired (full band) by Sonny Baker

Pr0 Social @ 4pm

545 Elmwood Avenue

Fresh off the release of their February 2025 EP some don’t make it here.. is gritty R&B/ hip-hop solo artist, Pr0 Social. Since emerging on the scene in 2018, Pr0- Social (aka Jerrell Lanos) has been honing his skills in the alt-pop scene, mastering his craft and gaining a following throughout the journey. Fans of Frank Ocean or early The Weeknd will be into Pr0.

Power Creep @ 5pm

545 Elmwood Avenue

Raw punk trio Power Creep re-emerges as a project after a fairly quiet 2025. Fronted by Tyler Will, Power Creep is the offshoot of his previous band, Cheap Peach, which was a constant opener on Buffalo’s indie scene in 2022 and 2023.

Hideous by Power Creep

Stephen Babcock @ 6pm

444 Forest Ave.

After hours officially start at 6pm with indie singer/songwriter Stephen Babcock. Babcock has connected with fans beyond Buffalo with his relatable lyrical content and subtle pop-girlie undertones. With rumblings of lofty projects heading into the summer, Babcock’s stock is quickly rising in the local scene.

Johnny & the Man Kids @ 7pm

444 Forest Ave.

At this point, you could have just stayed at 444 Forest Ave and had a killer day of local live music. Wrapping up Elmwood Village Porchfest 2025 is Johnny & the Man Kids * who are fresh off the heals of their new EP – Everything is From Now On (which was album of the week a few weeks back). The quintet will surely deliver upbeat indie pop with a heartfelt earnestness, and killer hooks to boot.

Indie-folk bard Justin Roeland joins a stacked bill of local songwriters tonight at Nietzsche’s. Currently based in Ithaca, Roeland along with his band Nightswimmers has been a fairly regular sight in lineups recently. With deeply poetic, quasi lethargic lyricism, and captivating melodies, Roeland has proven himself to be a standout member of a sometimes crowded field of songwriters.

Joining Roeland tonight are Sonny Baker, known for both his solo work and his work with Lazlo Hollyfeld, Oats Holy Roller, the moniker of Joe Myers most recently known for his project The Shallows, and Andy Pothier, lead singer of Passed Out. Tonight is a night for deeply cathartic, moderately melancholy music presented by four of the most talented songwriters this city has seen in years. This event will sure to be a hit for fans of Jeff Tweedy, Andy Shauf, Big Thief, and Slaughter Beach, Dog. 8:30pm doors, $5, 21+

Nietzsche’s is holding the line tonight against the existential threat of the invading lunkheads with a strong lineup of in your face but smart as hell local rock featuring the always satisfying Sonny Baker Band, The Eaves, TVMTN and the Shallows. One of the hardest working musicians in Buffalo, Sonny is the sound of the city we wish it really was, and tonight he’s getting the whole band together to play some original tunes and possibly some interesting covers because they are good like that.

Tonight’s lineup will feature American garage rockers The Eaves, fresh off the release of their tight full length vinyl LP Learning To Live last month; newbie indie rock outfit TVMTN, featuring members of On Beta, The Old Sweethearts and Fourem; and the Shallows, the latest project from inevitable talismanic folk hero Joe Myers and an incredible band held aloft by Chris Ploss and heave’s Emily Finlan. Doors are at 9pm and cover is $7.

On his new release Steady Hands, Dead Tired, acclaimed Buffalo-area guitarist Sonny Baker solidifies himself as a purveyor of top-notch rock ‘n’ roll with a post-punk flair.

The raucous and thrilling yet impressively considered first track “Basic Interactions” augments ravaging guitar, exclamatory singing and rollicking drums with surges of bass sure to course through the listener’s entire body.

“Reluctant Thief” stays subdued and relaxing until about the 1-minute mark, when it lets loose to exhilarating effect with an impassioned cry of “I know it’s been years, since I made a fool of you.” Charged-up instrumental ascension is curtailed in a snap when the song returns to its relatively more easygoing, reserved verses.

The next track, “Comfortable,” begins with stand-alone guitar riffage before pounding drums kick in to send the song into a melodic barrage. A biting, relentlessly catchy rhythm ensues, and two full minutes of interlocking guitar work escort the song to a close.

“Dead, Shaking It” is led by a sauntering flow and ethereal singing. It’s more meditative than its surrounding tunes, but it grows in assertiveness at its halfway point. Yielding to its placement in the track list, the song fulfills the role of a true centerpiece, one that possesses gripping beauty and provokes bountiful thought.

“Stiff Bed” re-ups the ante, with a chugging beat and a sound reminiscent in ways of early Pearl Jam.

“Easier,” a notably raw and authentic song, convinces that every performer in the band has a weight to remove and pent-up anger to release, perhaps to fit in with the despair-filled tone emanating from such lines as “nothing gets easier, easier to deal with.”

The closer, which also happens to be the title track and longest song on the album, is wordless for nearly three whole minutes, up until filtered, bubbly vocals take hold. The album ends with an immersive hellstorm of instruments that should, although the lyrics suggest an opposing sensation or lack thereof, get the blood flowing and racing.

Sonny Baker’s album is available for purchase through the artist’s bandcamp.

Long-serving Buffalo musician Sonny Baker’s solo single “Reluctant Thief” is a 5-minute meditation on withering relationships perfectly suited for play at maximum volume. Sparse rhythm and slackened guitar accompany soothing, softly sung verses, while bursts of raucous guitar join in on the song’s tortured, soul-bearing choruses.

With a command of both raw and reserved stylings vocally and instrumentally, Sonny Baker’s newest offering harkens back to the heyday of Dinosaur Jr. as well as bands who hit the music scene in the 21st century, like My Morning Jacket and Broken Social Scene.

Check out Baker’s newest single, due out December 15th via Admirable Traits Records.
