Tennessee’s very own ATMoney is reportedly coming through with his third installment of ITID (I think I’m Dope 3) in March of 2023, but gave his fans a top tier music video with the title track “ITID.” The music video displays ATMoney genuinely rapping his face off while his friend whimsically dances in the background, perfectly representing the lyrics the Tennessee MC is spitting. ATMoney is regarded as the “Toxic Avenger” and is actively spreading awareness against toxic behavior, and this latest drop is no exception. There is a 300% chance you will think you’re dope after peeping out the self affirming “ITID.” We’re excited to see what ITID 3 will bring after watching the title track’s music video on repeat.

Steven Araico’s voice alone emits this undeniably ethereal energy. With such a gentle voice, the instrumental doesn’t need to do much. The percussion throughout “Ivory Keys” grants it universal emotion accessibility; as in you can listen to it in any mood and it’ll still hit. The short-bursted hi hats bring more life to the track, along with progressive 808s that offer a fantastic supporting element to the melodic hook. The piano paired with the synths also work together to bring a cinematic feel to “Ivory Keys,” helping the audience paint their own picture of what this summer might look like bumping Steven Araico.

Cole Connor and mentor, Master Splnta came back with movie-like production on their latest collab. “Revenge” (the video) has double the run-time of the song, but summarizes everything leading up to it, displaying clips of Cole Connor’s past with Master Splnta as Cole feeds into his contemplation of his mentor. After meeting up, the track starts and the rest is history. Cole comes in with a delivery that’s rapid fire, yet effective, due to the charming timbre in his voice, while Splnta tags in with ever-so clever wordplay such as “Ain’t’ that what revenge is. Punctuation On the end of a sentence.” The two MC’s have a very contagious chemistry that drives what looks and sounds like friendly competition; and it’s a thrill watching them compete. This is in fact a duo that the world very much needed back in the pendulum swing of things.

Khi’leb came through with an absolute production of a track titled “Tempt Me” from his deluxe album Project In the Suburbs. I pressed play and thought I had an idea of where the track was headed but as soon as Khi’leb laid down the first vocals, that thought went out the window. The amount of vocal layers on the hook are likely to reach the moon and back; not only to harmonize but to fulfill the main vocals to their maximum potential. “Tempt Me” is just as beautiful of a track as it is hard. The Australian artist conveyed the feeling of a triumphant underdog overcoming a world of adversary in such an authenticated way.

Coi Leray came through with a bold statement to end 2022. Her versatility was put to the ultimate test after rapping on one of the most iconic beats of all time. Coi Leray over Ice Cube’s “Check Yo Self” instrumental is the cross-over no one saw coming, but everyone needed. She slides through the smooth & bouncy surface of the baseline to deliver instantly classic lyrics. “Players” is the epitome of a perfect song for your pregame/party playlist!

Hip-Hop’s ultimate enigma, Ski Mask The Slump God, came through on Halloween with the ever so festive “OOGA BOOGA!” Listening to how Ski Mask floats over the instrumental is like watching your favorite cartoon character come out of the screen and start dancing in your living room. The amount of caption worthy bars given out like candy within a two minute and twelve second time stamp is just absurd. Both the lyrics and flows in “OOGA BOOGA!” can be sourced back to none other than The Slump God, he is a true pioneer of what I could only describe as animated rap. The once “SoundCloud rapper” has turned himself into a household name by making songs that sound like they’re emanating from a golden GameCube on Friday the 13th.

On October 1st, 2002, an artist named Kod!e was born into a life of makeshift homes & painstaking anxiety. To celebrate making it 20 years through this journey of life he calls the Cycle of Man, Kod!e decided to drop a 13 track album titled just that on his twentieth birthday, October 1st 2022.

The alt rock/hyperpop inspired album has distinctive vocal textures. On tracks such as “Burn This Town” and “STAY AWAY,” the Buffalo-based artist’s vocals carry similar timbre to a chainsaw in a horror film. Respectively, on tracks like “What is wrong with me” and “Descending,” Kod!e’s voice floats through the atmosphere he’s engineered for himself. The wide range in dynamics and delivery over Cycle of Man is what distinguishes Kod!e from peers in the Buffalo alt rock/hyperpop demographic.

A music video with scenes ranging from a cemetery to a Buffalo loft for track six, “I Knew it From The Start,” dropped a week after the album was released. The eruptive video was shot and edited by one of Buffalo’s newest music video directors, Saturday Session. Kod!e’s display of acting in “I Knew it From The Start” is visual proof that the art he’s creating means much more than mp3 & mp4 files. He’s trying to break the barrier between the screen & his audience, and it’s working.

Kod!e revealed to his fans that over the course of its creation, Cycle of Man went through as many as five “cycles” in itself. After roughly one year of experimentation, the Buffalo artist was ready to ambush the industry. If thirty three minutes & thirty four seconds of manic-depressive music that reeks of relatability sounds like your genre, then you’re going to love this.

Stream Cycle of Man on Apple Music or Spotify.

I personally have never felt the primal urge to headbang anymore than the first five seconds into “Gold Chain” by Pasha X Coucheron. Introducing a club song so refreshing it’ll make the introverts feel like extroverts and the extroverts feel like dancing deities for two and a half minutes. “Gold Chain” is the type of track you’d hear leaking from the back entrance of an intergalactic nightclub. The loosely intoxicating delivery by Pasha tied in with rhythmically hypnotic production via Coucheron is what separates a “good club song” from an experience no matter the dance floor.

“Neighbors” by Kent Odessa & Jackson Reese was a breath of fresh air for the industry as a whole. Kent Odessa’s vocals gave my ears a melodic high they haven’t experienced in a while. Jackson Reese’s innovative flows and casually rebellious delivery gives the track a substantial focal point. Kent Odessa takes that focal point & wraps it up with tantalizing vocals that glisten like shimmering wrapping paper on Christmas day. Needless to say, “Neighbors” is a collaboration from Kent Odessa & Jackson Reese that the world had no idea it needed.

Through unforgivingly vulnerable vocals, the love-stricken Myles Smith speaks to those who grow stale in their room for days on end. With ever-so-delicate delivery, the London singer offers a shoulder to lean on whenever you feel “alone.” As we move closer to winter, Myles Smith’s latest drop only hits harder throughout these shorter days and longer nights. He teamed up with UK artist Hex who delivered an emotionally vicious first verse. A music video for “alone.” filmed and edited by Sean ‘SLA’ was dropped just two days after its initial release on October 14th.
