House Of Pain are one of those 90’s exuberances that’s simultaneously regrettable and irresistible, especially during Buffalo’s internationally renowned extended St. Patrick’s Day bacchanal, which reaches it’s apex today with the parade down Delaware Avenue, and House Of Pain at the Waiting Room. Giddyup fam, Everlast, Danny Boy and DJ Lethal will be presiding over an epic blow out in the Waiting Room’s parking lot featuring St. Patrick’s Day mayhem, 90’s covers from blog favorite Soul Patch, Slaine from La Coka Nostra, and DJ sets from Dovey and Rick Jameson. Tickets for this once in a lifetime Buffalo rager are still available for $15 general admission and $40 for VIP tickets. Rick Jameson starts it off at 12pm and House Of Pain caps it all off after the parade conclude’s at 4:30pm.

After a successful first run for our Herd Fest this past June, we wanted to lay low for a bit. As fun as Herd was, it was an exhausting few months of planning and we wanted to take a little breather from parties and recharge our batteries. So much for that. For our next show, we thought we would resurrect our Heavy Rotation dance party series and ring in the start of the fall semester with a back to school dance throw down.

Tonight at Hardware, the front and back rooms will be taken over by some of the blog’s favorite local DJs. If you missed any of the spotlights during the week, take a moment to catch up:

Rick Jameson

DJ Pizza Pizza

TEENWOLF

Chauncey Tails

Music will kick off this evening at 11pm with Jameson, aka Spooky Sean of Spooky Business, while the back room will jump off soon after and run all night long. So ditch the books for a few hours and worry about midterms whenever you happen to wake up tomorrow. Doors open at 10pm. $5 cover.

Artists love to have alter egos, and in this case, Spooky Business DJ Rick Jameson has many. If you want to call him by his government name, address him as Sean ‘Seabass’ Heidinger, who by day is the Classified Advertising Director for Artvoice, a cover not unlike Clark Kent or Peter Parker. At night, however, he is saving people…from boring nights and bad music.

As one half of “World-Class DJ Supergroup” Spooky Business, Spooky Sean got his start at a Buffalo mainstay of nights that are unforgettable yet you can’t remember them, the Pink. Like the DJ, the bar also goes by other names, including it’s the actual one, Allen Street Bar and Grill, inexplicably nicknamed The Old Pink. From here, business only got bigger and better, and now the duo plays bars and clubs all over the 716.

This Friday, the blog’s second installment of our Heavy Rotation series takes place at Allen Street Hardware, doors down from the Pink where it all began for Sean/Rick. Voted 2014’s “Best Place to Dance” in Buffalo by Artvoice, the venue is the perfect spot for a back-to-school dance party.

The 21+ event costs $5 to get in, and Rick will be in the front room to kick it off and warm things up at 11pm.

Need a palate cleanser from the five too many beers and late night fried food fest you inevitably went on last night? Stop by the Newbury Life Food and Music Festival, the first of it’s kind in WNY.

The block is hot on Hodge, and from 12-6pm the space between Elmwood and Ashland will be filled with local vendors, restaurants, businesses and retailers who will be on site promoting a healthier, cleaner lifestyle. Organic food and fresh ways to prepare it, as well as a focus on non GMO products are just two of the highlights of the event.

Pick up a tee from Pasteurized, chat with Oliver’s executive chef about the benefits of organic tofu, or grab a smoothie from the the juice bar tent. Bring your appetite, because Newbury Street will have rice and salad bowls inside their cafe, a recent addition to the Elmwood Strip that offers a fresh twist on simple fare that is GMO free.

Representatives from Independent Health will be here to help guide you through the healthy options available at local restaurants, and The Roaming Buffalo, a food truck dedicated to bringing it’s hungry customers the best local flavors from the 716, will be on site as well.

Thirsty (and over 21)? Stop into the Lockhouse Distillery tent for a taste of their vodka, made with non GMO grapes. There are other alcohol vendors showcasing their wares in the beer and wine garden, so don’t forget your ID.

Five local bands will be providing the soundtrack for this event, including Alan Evans, Lazlo Hollyfeld, Savannah King, Darling Harbor, and DJ sets throughout by Rick Jameson. This is an all ages, free admission event, but bring your wallet (and appetite) if you plan on eating or drinking, with all proceeds from the event go towards the lunch program at West Buffalo Charter School.

The fall semester is quickly approaching, which means to many of us (not me, I am sadly 30), summer is nearing its inevitable end. We thought we could help ease the pain of returning to the books by finally having our second go-around of our Heavy Rotation dance party series. We debuted our first installment last fall as part of the Elmwood Village’s annual Mass Appeal event at the Pierce Arrow, and for this time around, we are taking over the back room of Hardware to showcase some of our favorite area DJs with our very own back-to-school dance.

On Friday, September 12th, join us as Chauncey Tails, DJ Pizza Pizza, and Teenwolf will man the back while Rick Jameson (Spooky Sean of Spooky Business) will loosen everyone up as he gets things going in the front room.

Heavy Rotation: Back To School Dance is a 21+ event. Music kicks off at 11pm, with a cover of $5.
