Moon Hooch @ Buffalo Iron Works

One of New York City’s most successful (former) busker acts, Moon Hooch, returns to the Queen City Thursday for a night of dance, positivity, and woodwinds. Moon Hooch emerged from the Bedford L platform in the early 2010s and their live set was so mesmerizing, the band was actually banned from playing the platform because it became a standstill and was too dangerous to gather. From their early days, the project has mastered the upbeat, live dance looping sound that gets the crowd moving and grooving into the palm of their hand.

Opening the show will be space funk duo Future Show. Iron Works has really cornered the market on saxophone-centric dance acts. $25 and it’s well worth it.

Bright Eyes @ Buffalo Riverworks

This poster did a lot of the heavy lifting that is usually reserved for the body of the paragraph. So yeah, Bright Eyes is back in Buffalo this Friday with support from fellow Saddle Creek alumni Cursive. This will be a heavy hitter for Buffalo’s music scene and will hopefully be a palate cleanser for Connor Oberst in WNY.

Cursive just headlined Rec Room last fall and played the gambit of the band’s deep repertoire, even sprinkling in some songs off their highly acclaimed 2024 album Devourer. This double lineup is full of 2000’s indie nostalgia and could go down as one of the best shows of 2025. It’s $55.51 all-in.

Slow Joy @ Rec Room

Slow Joy is the moniker for Esteben Flores, who has been releasing music under this flag since 2020. Slow Joy has been steadily gaining a fanbase in the indiemosphere with his deep lyrics and emotionally vulnerable songs. Fans of Microwave, Hot Mulligan, or Heart Attack Man are gonna love this. Sharing the stage will be fellow emos Flycatcher and locals Heart for Sale. $20.55.

Brooklyn jazz fusion trio Moon Hooch met while attending college in Manhattan and shortly after began busking in New York subway stations. This humble beginning led the band to the realization that “the more focus and the more energy you put into the music, and the more you listen to everything around you and integrate everything around you into your expression, the more the music becomes this captivating force for people.” With this conscious approach to live performance, the band has found themselves opening for artists like Beats Antique, Lotus, and They Might Be Giants. Last year saw the release of their third album, Red Sky which the band calls their most focused effort to date as a result of the members personal evolution which they credit to their ongoing yoga and meditation practices. Tonight Moon Hooch will perform at Buffalo Iron Works at 9pm. Tickets are $12.
