buffaBLOG is proud to launch the first day of events for this year’s Herd Fest. A lot of planning and curating went into crafting these shows and we are psyched to gather some of the most buzzed about local and regional acts for your viewing/listening pleasure. We encourage you to seek out bands you are not familiar with, and bounce around from venue to venue to get a real feel for what Western New York’s music scene is like in 2017.

Mohawk Place opens it doors at 7pm for a night that will please any music fan. Set to open are up-and-coming indie rock act Hundred Plus Club, scene staples dreambeaches, Ithaca buzzing emcee Sammus, and the unveiling of the new project God Save the Queen, a collaboration between DJ Mario Bee and Mic Excel. $7 cover.

NIetzsche’s also has a stacked line-up. Starting off the night will be whiskey folk act Rust Belt Brigade, followed by a stripped down set from one-woman grunge act Stress Dolls, alternating back to the front for raw garage rock act Wren Williams and Son of Luther. Following the Sons is Albany indie-pop act Cannon the Brave, with a set by soulful loopmaster Ryan Howze and slacker core band Award Show. Doors at 8pm with a $5 cover.

There will be a small amount of all-access tickets available for pick-up at Mohawk Place starting at 7pm. If you are going with this option, we suggest buying in advance as there are less than 50 tickets left total. See you there!

Buffalo ex-pat and current NYC-based DJ/producer Mario Bee recently collaborated with local MC/artist Mic Excel for a mini EP titled God Save The Queen. The project features snippets of Vincent Gallo’s film Buffalo 66 which mark the beginning and end of each new instrumental. The pair trade verses over a gloomy instrumental with busy percussion to kick off the release, while the second track goes into more traditional hip hop territory before ending on a 808 and bass-heavy, more experimental note as the emcees lay down dexterous flows over the producer’s shadowy melodies. Listen to God Save The Queen below.

Two former Rochester-based artists, DJ Mario Bee and rapper Mike Gerbino, are set to release their debut collaborative EP, Point of No Concern on April 20th. Featuring an assortment of hip-hop, electronic, and grime beats, the five-track record abrasively touches on subjects like the middle-east, prostitution, global warming, and Facebook.

Well known for his work on HBO’s Brave New Voices poetry special, Gerbino is an accomplished spoken work artist in addition to his hip hop endeavors, while Mario Bee began his career DJing and producing in both Rochester and Buffalo before moving to New York City where he now gigs frequently throughout the city and the East Coast. The pair are also having a release party for the EP this Saturday at Leftfield Bar in New York if you find yourself in the area

Check out the project’s first single, “Eliot Spizter,” below.

Get ready to sweat. Artvoice is hosting another installment of its Night Shift tonight. And for those who don’t know, Night Shift is (usually) a series of dance escapades in the back room of Hardware, showcasing the most up and coming DJs native to Buffalo/WNY. Summoned this time around is Stuntman, Mario Bee, and Jolly Wailer. And if that hasn’t caught your ear, know that they’ll be channeling the hard rhythms through the most beefy sound system the venue has seen up to date.

Crystalline deep end? Check. Premier lineup? Check. Dance yourself clean this evening. The music begins at 11pm, $5 to get in.

Brooklyn-via-Buffalo-via-Rochester DJ/producer Mario Bee has showed his combined influence of both North American and UK club music on his various soundcloud demos and the Tomb EP, released last December on Austrian label Tiefparterre Records. The latest collection from the artist comes via media brand Toats Orig and is a two-tracker aptly titled Jnson & Jhnson.

Lead cut, “BabyPowder,” brings a raucous three minutes of grime, trap, and southern-rap, with a menacing, detuned bassline. Bringing to mind producers like Darq E Freaker and Royal-T, the stripped-down, raw aesthetic combines elements of Jersey club and hip hop, making for an inventive sound still strongly rooted in club music culture. The B-side, “BabyOil,” brings a similar vibe, with a faster tempo and break beats scattered throughout. Listen below and check out the Malt Disney edited video for “BabyPowder.”

Artvoice is presenting the second installment of its monthly showcase series tonight at what appears to be the event’s home base of Hardware. The bill is made up of some of Buffalo’s best DJs, including a handful of buffaBLOG part vets like Brooklyn via Buffalo via Rochester producer DJ Mario Bee, Medison, and Spooky Business. Despite sticking with a collection of DJs again, Artvoice has hinted that Night Shift will evolve from showcase to showcase, so keep an eye on future installments to see what the weekly publication has up its sleeve.

Night Shift kicks off this evening at 11pm with a cover of $5.
