Herd Fest 2015: Day 3 (Part 2)

Herd Fest 2015 returned to Allentown Saturday night with three more loaded showcases sprinkled on to the block. With Silo Sessions setting up shop at Nietzsche’s, Quiet Country Audio taking over Duke’s, and the Wax Museum crew manning both rooms in Hardware, the final evening of the 2015 edition of the festival featured something for everyone. Tireless festival photography, Candace Camuglia, was able to capture the evening. Check out some select shots below, and for the full gallery from Day 3’s night time showcases, head over to the festival’s Facebook page.

Herd Fest 2015: Day 3 (Part 1)

Day 3 of Herd Fest proved to be the young festival’s biggest day yet (so big, in fact, that we made the photo galleries two parts), featuring five loaded showcases spread all over town. The afternoon saw local record shops Record Theatre (along with Steak & Cake Records) and Black Dots host in-store and, in the case of the latter, outdoor patio bills. Candace Camuglia was once again on hand to shoot all of the action. Check out some select shots below and for a full gallery, visit the festival’s Facebook page. Keep an eye out soon for a part 2 gallery from Herd Fest’s Day 3.

Herd Fest 2015: Day 2

Herd Fest 2015 officially kicked into its second gear last Friday night with three loaded showcases littered over Allentown. First off, though, long time local photog, Michael Mulley, opened up his “People That Rock” exhibit over at Sugar City on Niagara St.. The 20 + years in the making gallery featured photos of Henry Rollins, David Bowie, Social Distortion, and more. Later on that night, Nietzsche’s, Duke’s and Hardware were taken over by showcases from Harvest Sum, Deep Thinka Records, and the Cool Dad crew, respectively. Our festival photographer, Candace Camuglia, was once again deep into all of the action. Check out some select shots from the night below, and for a full gallery of Day 2, visit the festival’s facebook page.

Herd Fest 2015: Day 1

Herd Fest photographer, Canadace Camuglia, was on hand to catch all of the action. Browse through some select photos below and visit Herd Fest’s facebook page for a full gallery of day 1. Check back in all this week for the remaining festival galleries.

Tyler, The Creator at Town Ballroom (6/14/15)

With the Odd Future collective in flux, the group’s clown prince ringleader, Tyler, The Creator, returned to Buffalo Sunday night for a sold-out performance that saw the rapper dig deep into his latest record, Cherry Bomb. Contributing blog photographer, Candace Camuglia, was on hand to snap some pics of Tyler, opener and fellow/former Odd Future member Taco, and a somewhat subdued (for an OF show at least) crowd. For a full recap of the show, check out our review here.

Mac DeMarco at the Tralf Music Hall (7/18/14)

Before Friday, I had no idea how to describe Mac DeMarco. Well, I still don’t. It suffices to say that the guy is a complete anomaly; his music obviously speaks to people if his draw at Friday’s show at the Tralf is of any consideration. The place was packed with DeMarco look-alikes—a throng of carefree kids embracing the “I don’t give a shit” lifestyle. Unfortunately DeMarco was void of any backing musicians that night, but he was somehow still able to transform the packed venue into a wild party with just a guitar and his arsenal of caustic little anecdotes. Mac DeMarco is the party. I guess I can describe him after all. Opening support came from local electro whizkid Shawn Lewis of Lesionread, who got things started with his eclectic mix of experimental electronica. The music, comparable to that of Death Grips or Flying Lotus, certainly had a few[...]

Herd Fest: Day 1

This past weekend, buffaBLOG threw its inaugural Herd Fest: a two day, nine showcase festival scattered around Allen Town (and just beyond). With showcases at College Street Gallery, Nietzsche’s, Duke’s, and Hardware, each fit a certain taste and scene in Buffalo. Whether you like punk, roots, emo, or indie, Friday night had something for you. Check out some of our favorite pictures from Day 1 below and head over to our FB page for the full gallery. Mount Eerie at the Ninth Ward (4/17/14)

Phil Elverum is like an old friend who I don’t see very often and don’t speak to very much, but when in his presence, the feeling of tranquility takes over. A Mount Eerie performance is just that soothing (though powerful) feeling projected onto an audience. This year’s show at Ninth Ward was maybe the fourth or fifth time I’ve gone to experience Mount Eerie, but it was the first time I’ve seen Elverum perform solo. He performed seated on an empty stage in a wooden kitchen chair beneath a keyboard and is backed only by the poetic reverb vented from the single instrument. The April 17th set consisted primarily of new songs keyed out under appropriately intriguing single-noun titles and Elverum once again proves that he needs no supporting chorus as the ambiance he radiates is strong enough to make you feel the blue light that has consumed the room.[...]
