Gold Spectacles – “How to Make a Million”

The UK duo Gold Spectacles is here with the second single “How to Make a Million” from their upcoming EP due in May 2023 (see our previous features of both “Lights On Lights Off” and “Even“). The new single “How to Make a Million” lifts you up with soft scrumptious synths and hazy pop vocals. Using fuzzy analog synth tones with interweaving guitar lines and Amie’s earnest vocals guided by lo-fi percussion the track executes a nostalgic melancholy while wrapping your heart is fuzzy electric blankets. Fans of Postal Service, Metric, and Maggie Rogers will finds lots to love about “How to Make a Million”. The duo had this to say about their singles inspiration:

“On the first sunny day of spring in 2017, my dad woke up early, got on his motorbike and headed for the coast. He didn’t come home. Nothing can prepare you for the loss of a parent. The hollowness, the emptiness, the unfinished conversations, the unexpected guilt. In my situation, it was very sudden – the news of the accident didn’t seem real. I still have a hard time believing he is really gone. I keep expecting him to turn up. Time is the only thing that can separate you from the emotion but when you stop and think about it, it’s still as raw as ever. This is definitely the hardest song we’ve written.”
