New Jackson- “Having A Coke With You”

The title track for Dublin producer New Jackson’s latest EP for Permanent Vacation slowly unravels as a euphoric, expansive track led by smooth horns, mellow chords and a bittersweet string melody. A sampled speech dropped at around the five minute mark adds a pensive element to the track’s already introspective vibe, making for a subtle, intricate production. Look for the Having A Coke With You EP out now via Permanent Vacation.

Fantastic Man- “Robotic Temptation”

Cut Copy recently released Oceans Apart, the synth pop band’s latest DJ mix album/compilation featuring tracks from various Melbourne producers, including this spacey, shuffling track from Fantastic Man. With a thick bass line and eccentric melody, the track fits in comfortably among the collection of left-field dance cuts on the album.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/176647207″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Mark E- “Avion Central”

Birmingham producer Mark E recently released a new EP titled Avion for Ghostly International featuring his typically analogue sound and slow building compositions. Standout track “Avion Central” begins with a full bodied drum beat and expands to include lush synths and a playful melody while maintaining a straightforward, linear feel. Using a minimal approach, the producer brings out the detail in each of the track’s elements, creating a simple, yet imaginative soundscape.

Manchester, UK producer XXXY’s latest track is set to appear on house duo Waze & Odyssey’s upcoming compilation for their Street Tracks imprint. “TPW” features a prominent acidic bass line and energetic drums along with colorful synths that make for an effective, slightly dark acid house track. Listen below.

Holy Ghost! – “Changing of the Guard” (Andre Bratten Remix)
Norwegian producer Andre Bratten delivers a deep, sprawling rework of NYC dance-pop duo Holy Ghost!’s “Changing of the Guard” from their 2013 album Dynamics. The slow-building cut locks into a hypnotic groove, using restraint to let each uneasy element fade in and out until a patiently-timed drop around the six minute mark. The track is now available as a 12″ single via DFA records.

Quentin – “You Can Do It”
John Talabot’s Barcelona-based label Hivern Discs has become known for its’ output of subdued, yet highly emotive dance tracks from relatively unknown producers. Their latest release comes via a split 7″ single, to be released at their upcoming party this Saturday in London. The A-side, “You Can Do It,” from Quentin is a gorgeous, melodic track that includes smooth keys, organic percussion and soulful vocal sampling.

Youandewan – “93”
Berlin producer Youandewan recently released this silky edit of the classic Souls of Mischief track “93 ’til Infinity,” which stretches out the pensive instrumental over six minutes, laying down an infectious, understated groove. With added atmospheric keys and soulful looping, the track builds upon the serene vibe of the original, delivering a unique soundscape that pays homage to a blissful, treasured hip hop record.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/174070390″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Jacques Greene – “1 4 Me”
Building upon his patient production style that features slow builds and euphoric drops, New York-based producer Jacques Greene released his latest track “1 4 Me” earlier this week in anticipation of his forthcoming EP After Life, After Party on LuckyMe. According to the artist, the track was born out of a personal challenge to “keep an arrangement dead simple,” making for a minimal beat that places emphasis on emotive synths and abstract vocal sampling. For an artist who has been most comfortable creating soulful r&b flavored club music, the track finds Greene right at home with an experimental, highly expressive sound.

Les Sins – “Talk About”
Chaz Bundick aka Toro Y Moi is set to release his first full length November 4th under the name Les Sins, a project that has yielded a handful of playful house oriented tracks to date. The album, Michael, features many of the same funky, pop-centric elements of his previous work, as the fluid track “Talk About” builds upon a simple, elusive synth line and builds to soulful swells featuring intermittent drops of a sample from Nas’ “One Love.” Michael is out November 4th on Carpark Records.

Dusky – “Yoohoo”
Having become known for their full-bodied, melodic house style, UK duo Dusky deliver yet another intricately-produced track on their latest release for their label 17 Steps. “Yoohoo” features a blend of stark, hard-edged sounds with euphoric, more uplifting elements like an inviting keyboard line and propulsive bass groove. While still referencing a familiar house approach, the pair have carved out an original, forward-thinking sound for themselves that is increasingly hard to categorize.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/171908726″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

FaltyDL – “Do Me (Bruk Mix)”
New York producer Drew Lustman, better known as FaltyDL is set to release a new EP, titled ///I\II\\\\ for Ninja Tune following his expansive album In the Wild, which came out back in August. With a jazz-oriented sound, “Do Me (Bruk Mix)” organically incorporates breakbeat, and hip-hop elements to achieve an elusive, more reflective feel. Known for his eclectic sonic choices, Lustman builds around atmospheric percussion, adding thick bass tones and eerie vocal samples making for a fascinating, abstract listen.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/172050836″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Dauwd – “Moiety”
Returning for his second release on German label Kompakt, London producer Dauwd continues to impress with his minimal, understated melodic sound. His latest two-track release, Saleh, includes the b-side “Moiety,” which slowly evolves with careful precision and intriguing layering to create a sprawling vibe that reveals more detail upon multiple listens. As an artist with only a handful of releases to his name, Dauwd continues to develop a style that places emphasis on texture with incredibly vivid arrangements.

With a command of subtle changes in energy and strong vocal refrain, the artist once again shows his ability to craft memorable tracks on his latest release, “What’s It Gonna Be?,” which features California producer/vocalist Seven Davis Jr. The tune features a tight groove and understated, yet soulful vocals that make for a moody, subtle house feel.

Bicep – “Poly Pineapple”
Belfast duo Bicep will finally deliver their long-anticipated BBC Essential mix this weekend and recently shared a new track “Poly Pineapple” via Soundcloud. Recorded in a single live take, the cut features lively arpeggiating synths and typically rough-around-the-edges sounding drums. As usual the pair manage to evoke considerable energy and movement from a fairly simple arrangement, making for a style that balances house energy with techno textures. Listen below.

Bodhi – “Satisfaction”
UK production duo Bodhi have developed a tight, modern house sound that still exudes the funky and flavorful sound that the genre was built on. With previous releases on labels like Ten Thousand Yen, Future Classic, and the Street Tracks compilation, the pair’s latest EP, Satisfaction, comes via Exploited and features three organic sounding dance tracks with a warm feel and enticing grooves. The title track includes a subdued, yet functional vocal sample that keeps the track moving over soulful chords and silky smooth percussion. Listen to a clip of the track below as well as “Soul Music” and “Truth,” also included on the EP out September 22nd.

Baba Stiltz – “Reality Sparks”
Stockholm, Sweden-based producer Baba Stiltz has tracks for cloud-rap sensation Yung Lean credited to his name as well as for the playful house label Studio Barnhus. The young artist’s debut album, Total, is set to be released on October 13th and according to Studio Barnhus is “as lucid and strong as it is obscure and beautiful”. “Reality Sparks,” one of twelve tracks from the album, presents itself as a mellow, contemplative sounding house track with uplifting synth work and an overall blissful, yet restrained feel, using each element to maximum efficiency and creating a compelling, minimal sound. Listen below.

The Weeknd – “What You Need” (Jacques Greene ’11 Edit)
Despite the fact that three years have passed since The Weeknd’s House of Balloons mixtape helped break through the moody, atmospheric R&B sound that is still favored currently, the future-soul production on “What You Need” still feels fresh with its’ understated, spacey beat. Montreal born house producer Jacques Greene has favored similar textures in his productions, merging house and garage rhythms with hazy R&B aesthetics. It comes as no surprise then, that the artist decided to rework the breakout track in his style, sharing a previously unreleased edit on his soundcloud earlier this week as a free download. Complete with his distinctive drum production and ethereal, slow-burning synth textures, the track brings to mind the producer’s Ciara-sampling track “Another Girl” that turned heads back in 2011. Listen/download the edit below.

Caribou – “Our Love”
Canadian producer Dan Snaith’s fifth album as Caribou, titled Our Love, is due to be released on October 7th in North America via Merge Records. The title track combines cerebral textures with sounds deeply rooted in club music as a sensual vocal sample is paired with a deep, rumbling bass line and the artist’s typically eccentric synths. A breakdown at around the 2:30 mark makes way for a more straightforward club approach led by a kinetic bass riff and vibrant synth stabs.

Les Sins – “Bother”
Chaz Bundick is best known for his project Toro Y Moi which started as hazy, bedroom pop before progressing to smooth, slightly eccentric funk and soul. His lesser known side project, Les Sins, debuted in 2012 with a pair of singles on Jiaolong records and now Bundick has released the latest track from the project, “Bother.” With chopped vocals and a driving rhythm, the track builds to a soaring breakdown with shredding guitar before smoothly returning to the original hook. Look for Les Sins’ debut album, Michael, out on December 4th via Carpark.

Alma Construct – “On The Edge, Surrounded With The Shores Of Assudrey”
Longtime leader in independent electronic music, R&S records has always been known for their output of groundbreaking young talent, whether it be Aphex Twin, James Blake, or Lone, the label has served as a platform for countless emerging producers. Their latest signing, 19-year-old Jack Thompson aka Alma Construct, continues this tradition as his lead single, “On The Edge, Surrounded With The Shores Of Assudrey,” is a captivating, sprawling track with vocals that fade in and out, carefully layered melodies and a slow-crawling groove that eventually relents for a more ethereal outro. The producers’ self-titled debut EP is out August 26th via R&S records.
